You can do better

Sail Date: February 18, 2012

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/young children

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship was okay for its age but the kids didn't like the pool or water park areas. Their smoking/non-smoking areas are senseless. We could not get away from the smoke and if you ever wanted to refill your drink, standing in the smokers area was the only option. In our cabin, it was hard to get to sleep until all shows and events in the forward section were done because sound traveled so much that it was loud in our cabin.

Pros: Weather and Private Island

Cons: Secondhand smoke everywhere! Food below par! Loud in our cabin

Recommends Carnival Ecstasy? No.

Ship Quality
Miniature golf area is beat-up. Ice cream spill in ping/pong area never cleaned up even after we reported it. Railings on spiral stairs were sticky and disgusting.
Cabin / Stateroom
The stateroom was nice, spacious but not very quiet. When you went back to your room to rest, you couldn't until the everybody else was done partying because it was noisy.
Entertainment
Entertainment was basic and nearly amateur level. Comedy act was good but repeated same material every night. Other shows were not that good.
Food and Dining
Many dishes overcooked. Chicken was always dry. The buffet food was actually better than the dining room food. Great fruit, good fries and grill food but rest of the food was just average.
Service and Staff
Staff was nice enough but never went above and beyond. I've been on other cruises where you are treated like somebody special and they staff really was personable and connected with you. Not on Carnival...they just did their function (e.g. serve food, drinks, etc)
