Review SummaryMy wife and I were on the Carnival Ecstasy that was held over-night on February 19th, 2011 due to fog. We are understanding of the fact Carnival cant control the weather (fog) which caused the late debarkation. However, while the fog was the initial cause of our delays we believe the lack of communication and readiness on Carnivals part caused us to arrive back to Cincinnati two-days after our scheduled return, and cost us over $300 in expenses and additional vacation days. We feel the lack of communication, preparation and execution on behalf of Carnival is what caused are two-day delay.
The only information (which was incorrect) we could obtain was from calling Customer Service. After speaking with one representative at approximately 4:00 PM on Saturday we were told the Ecstasy would dock at 6:45 PM and our ride could pick us up at the terminal shortly after. As you know, this was not the case. My uncle had arrived at 9:00 AM from Katy, TX to take us to Hobby Airport so we could avoid messing with the shuttle. Although, Customer Service told us we would be docked at 6:45 PM no announcement was made on the boat until 6:00 PM stating we would be staying on the Ecstasy for the night. After waiting for NINE hours to pick us up my uncle returned home. we had no but to to pay the $60 for the Carnival Shuttle to Hobby Airport the next day. These tickets were never collected at any point or our names checked on any list. Essentially, we could have ridden the shuttle for FREE as other guests did.
Having rescheduled our Air-Tran flight for the THIRD time we asked Guest Services on the boat if we could disembark with an earlier group in order to make our 6:48 PM flight home. However, Guest Services told us that was not an option and we needed to wait until our stateroom (M252) was called. After waiting several more hours we finally debarked the Ecstasy at 4:30 PM. Guest Services told us we would be able to catch a shuttle to the Airport directly after exiting the Ship, this was not the case. We spent the next 90 minutes waiting between the shuttle to the pier and the shuttle to Hobby Airport. We arrived at Hobby at 7:05 PM missing our flight by less than 20 minutes. The next flight flight we were able to catch left at 5:33 PM on Monday February 21st, 2011.
From this point forward I believe Carnival is responsible for our expenses due to your lack of urgency, communication and execution in helping us catch our flight.
Dear Mr. Hare:
Thank you for contacting us following your recent cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy.
We know a stress-free return home is key to ending your cruise on a high note. We always want our guests to leave with fun-filled memories. Obviously, this is not how we would have wished for your vacation to start, but Mother Nature decided not to cooperate.
Carnival recognizes how important communication is to our guests especially in situations such as this. That is why intermittent announcements were made regarding the weather conditions and possible docking times. Were sorry this may have been missed by some and now know theres room for improvement.
Once again, were very sorry for any disappointment due to the delayed arrival. While I wish I had better news, we cannot honor your request for compensation.
Please don't let what happened this time around color your entire opinion of us. Wed love to welcome you back.
