Tired Food on a Tired Ship

Sail Date: February 05, 2007

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Suite

This was our 3rd cruise.. We have cruised Royal and Disney before. This was the least expensive and lower end cruise of the 3. The best part was the price and perks. When you put more than 2 in the same room the other people in the room get on for 50% less. We got the 4 of us (wife, I and 2 kids) in a suite. Lots of room - king size bed with queen fold out and they brought in a trundle bed for the boy and we had plenty of space. All of this for just over $2k for the 5 nights..

The ship is 16+ yeard old and is not very fancy. The food was less than spectacular - in fact there was not a meal anyone of us would have went back for.

The upside is when you get a suite, you get the VIP access. You get in a special line to get in and get to the front of the security line. You then sit with a counselor to get all checked in. We were in our room 15 minutes after we got off the parking bus.

Pros: Relaxing.. VIP treatment was a plus

Cons: Older ship; food was disappointing

Recommends Carnival Ecstasy? No.

Cabin / Stateroom
Lots of room. Beds very stiff.
Food and Dining
At the sit down meals the food tasted like the waiter went and picked it off a buffet line for you. Just was not very good or memorable. As far as the 24 hour eating - you can eat all of the hamburgers, french fries and pizza you want - but it is not very good and over 5 days gets very old.
Entertainment
If you get bored on this ship it is your own fault. There are a lot of on bored activities. Please note over half of the guests are ober 65
Ship Quality
16 years old with some funky smells in some areas
Service and Staff
As opposed to other cruises they spent a lot of time on cell phones and hallway phones.. They were more than willing to help when you needed something.
Progreso (Merida), Mexico
Took the minimum ruin tour... Was enough to see what the ruined looked like. You do not have a lot of time on this stop.. Ship leaves at 3:00
Cozumel, Mexico
We had prepaid for a jeep tour and were notified the night before it was cancelled. Found out others had been cancelled to. Due to the lateness of being notified all of the other popular excursions had been sold out. Ended up renting a cab and heading to the ocean
Don't Miss: Senore Frogs
