Had to get off the ship!

Sail Date: July 29, 2006

Reviewed: 10 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Oceanview

We have three boys (ages 12,9,6) there was not a lot for them to do. The 6 yr. old was not tall enough to go down the slide. Lots of older kids (18-20's) making out in the pools. Had to wait in line for the pizza for 1 hour. The Lido deck food was good as was the main dining. Our kids played shuffle board and putt-putt- but you can only do that for so long. There was not room in the pool for them-too packed. We disembarked at our first stop (Cozumel). Ship was supposed to honour it's vacation guarantee- it did not.

Pros: The main seated dining at night

Cons: the pool area was way too crowded-lots of lines for everything

Ship Quality
I would not take small children on this cruise-we took the stairs all the time- too many people using the elevator. I think cruises should be for adults only.
Entertainment
There was not much going on for the children-our children did not want to be put in "kid's camp"- it's a family vacation! A better idea would be to have competitions/games between families- not just the kids. I like my kids- want to be with them- especially on a cruise ship.
Food and Dining
Dining room food was fair- service was really good. We enjoyed our guests as our table. The cruise charged us $28 per day/per child for unltd. cokes to drink. Please read all ship infor they give you about gratuities before getting on ship. They automatically assess you $50 pp/per day- you can change this amount- but have to stand in line for 1-2 hours to do so.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our room was clean and nice looking but grossly too small-we had 5 people and were supposed to be guaranteed a large room. One King bed with two bunks that came out from the wall over the king bed, my husband slept on a rollaway that was in the hallway. Absolutely no way to walk for take shower.
Service and Staff
Most of the staff were very nice, the information desk (comlaint desk) was very nice and friendly-untill we disembarked. They made airline transfers for us-we got to the Cozumel airport and the ship had cancelled our flight! We had to buy 5 tickets at $500 a piece to get home that day. Nobody going out of their way to help us to anything.
Children's Programs
We played shuffleboard lots and Putt-putt golf. Lots of kids ages 10-14 wandering around by themselves looking board stiff. we did spend lots of our money in the arcade.
Cozumel, Mexico
As soon as we disembarked, a cab driver told us what hotel we should stay in- it was fantastic! The staff was great and we had lots to do, snorkel, kayak, swim, eat at great restraunts, lots of great shopping- they are making a huge comeback from the hurricane that wiped them out! Lots of building going on.
Don't Miss: great shopping and boart rides (not much reef activity due to hurricane wiping out the reefs)
