The trip started off buying transfers from the airport to the port. The Carnival representative told us the next bus to the port would be 15 mins. After on hour we asked where the bus was. I don't want to even tell you what he said, needless to say it was one hour and 45 mins to get a bus to the port. I complained to carnival and got a nice email basically saying thats too bad but oh well! Once on board we got to our room, the counter was covered in sticky stuff from the previoues occupants. The beds were not in the configuration we had asked for and we requested early dining and got late. We went to the diningroom to see if it could be changed and we were told not a chance, they had 1500 kids on board with total guests being 4,000. So 8:15 it was or go eat at the buffet.
After eating at the diningroom for the first time, it was our last time. My son and I had prime rib which had a tomatoe based gravy and basically was a hunk of bland fat. It was the most disgusting food I have ever been served on a cruise ship. The waiters were terrible, we had someone walk by and ask if we would like a drink, too bad it took until dessert to be served to ask us, especially since we usually spend several hundred dollars on wine during a cruise. Carnivals loss!
Now for the buffet, bland, bland, bland and way over crowded for the small sized area. The indian food very good, deli very good, pizza-they need to take lessons from disney or princess. Bland bland bland. Most places that had anything decent to eat were only open 3 hours a day, everything else was the remainder of the trip. Breakfest was the same everyday of the cruise. Boring!!!!!
Activities, we had two rainy days during our cruise, they did nothing to offer any additional activities with 4,000 people pn board. Staff to cruiser ratio is so low that you see the same staff member serve your breakfest, clean the decks, run bingo and participate in a show. The crew looks over worked and they seeem as though they want to do a good job but realize they just can't with the number of passangers compared to crew members.
I have cruised on almost all other cruise lines and Carnival you definetly get what you pay for. Its cheap but so is the food, service and cabins. Once onboard they also have the most expensive bar prices at 6.19 per beer and most mixed drinks were 8.00-10.00 each. shore excursions are very over priced, pictures the same. They get you onboard cheap but don't be fooled, they get there money in other ways.
If you are looking for a bargin basement cruise and you don;t care about service, food or activities, then go Carnival.
