Good, not great Carnival Dream Cruise

Sail Date: June 09, 2012

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Balcony

Two years ago we said that was our last Carnival cruise due to the sub par experience. Friends convinced us to give it another try and I'm glad we did. The Dream is a nicely decorated and very clean ship. Our standard balcony cabin was larger than others on Royal, Celebrity and NCL. The staff was friendly and accommodating. But with Carnival, it's always the food. Nothing was bad, but nothing was very good. The taste was ok but the menu selection was disappointing.

Pros: Ship Decor

Cons: Dining Room Food and Menu

Recommends Carnival Dream? Yes!

Food and Dining
Carnival offers an "any time" dining option so the flexibility exists for those that would like that. The food was served warm, not hot. The quality was good and the taste was fine, not great. However, the selections were not varied and we always would look forward to escargot one night....never happened.
Entertainment
We were surprised since we were on a "fun ship" that there wasn't an overabundance of fun opportunities. Usually when we cruise we have the dilemma of choosing one activity over another and that never happened.
Ship Quality
It's a very large ship but clean and easily accessible on all levels. You have the same issue on all ships where dining rooms are 2 stories and you can't walk through the dining rooms to get to "the other side" but this is how it has to be.
Cabin / Stateroom
Cabins are larger than most ships. The beds were not comfortable. The bathroom layout was good and the showers worked great.
Service and Staff
Very friendly staff, genuinely willing to help. No above and beyond stories to tell even when the opportunity presented itself.
