Great cruise

Sail Date: November 19, 2011

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Balcony

The ship is large with lots of room & activities. Though the crew were constantly working and maintaining the ship, we could see noticeable wear since we were on the same ship a year ago. It was kept very clean, even during this cruise which was near capacity.

Pros: Amenities available on ship Excellent children's programs.

Cons: Dining Room

Recommends Carnival Dream? Yes!

Food and Dining
Our Scarlet Dining Room experience was bad with poor service & below average food quality. Outlying eating locations (deli sandwich, pizza, etc. were very good. Even the Buffet lines featured better food, though standing in line does detract from the ambience.
Ship Quality
Very clean & laid out well overall.
Cabin / Stateroom
Our stateroom service was excellent, though as is typical shipboard, the space is quite limited.
Service and Staff
Some of the shows were outstaning, great singing & dancing. Funny comedians also.
Children's Programs
Our 4 y.o. loves "her boat" & Camp Carnival. The staff there are very caring & they have a rich, activity-filled program.
Nassau, Bahamas
Blue Lagoon Dolphin Experience was enjoyable, though too short & a bit pricey. A 'gotcha', was having to pay another $15 pp when you arrived to use the swimming area with fun inflated slides, etc.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
We tried eating at 1 place, not good & expensive. Took the Butterfly Farm tour. Interesting, but too expensive. The tour driver that took us there was very good, filling us with history of the island & various locations on Dutch & French sides.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Great place to buy diamonds (our 30th Anniversary), though we were misled by Carnival's Dominica & Elgan. They emphasized that there was No Duty on loose stones, which we purchased. HOWEVER, if you have them set (even into existing jewelry), you then must pay duty upon entry into U.S. Ouch!
Don't Miss: Shopping
