Sail Date: March 01, 2012 Ship: Carnival Destiny (RETIRED) 28 Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Singles/Friends Reviewed: 6 years ago
We missed 2 port visits because of weather (40 - 45 knot winds) and rough seas. We did get an overnight in Nassau though, but the shops close at 5 - 6 pm so nothing else to do but drink after that.
The problems with this cruise were not all weather related though. The atmosphere and entertainment (or lack there of) was also to blame. Oh yeah, and all of the drunk college kids!
Never again on Carnival and certainly not on Destiny!
Food and Dining

The dining room food was mostly just OK. Nothing special, and no where near the quality as my last Carnival cruise 7 years ago. Shame on you Carnival! My steak the first night was as dry as the sahara desert.
The buffet food was mostly disgusting, even for buffet food. The "scrambled eggs" werent fit for a pig to eat. Although the omlettes were good in the morning and the burgers were surprisingly good. The pizza was good but a bit under cooked.

With the exception of the band Deshay, the entertainment was horrible. We expected to hear some caribbean music on the Lido deck before departing (like on my last cruises) to get us in the mood and relax. Not on Destiny! It was loud obnoxious noise that only got worse when the college kids started getting drunk.
The "caribbean" band was also dissapointing. We expected authentic caribbean music, but just got American songs with a caribbean beat. Shame on you again Carnival!
Service and Staff

The staff in general were friendly and helpful. Leona from the band Deshay was great! We were very grumpy the first night due to the ship leaving over 3 hours late, the terrible music on the Lido deck and so far, disgusting food. She took the time to talk to use during one of her breaks, and we eventually had FUN that night thanks to her.

The ship layout is terrible but they do have maps at the elevators. Too bad its so dark you can t read them. I thought the ship was too big and everywhere you went it was crowded! You couldnt get a deck chair around the pool on the Lido deck because people had them "reserved" despite the signs saying NOT to do this. Nobody cared.
The decor was hideous, and dark, but from what I could tell it was fairly clean and in OK shape considering the age.
Cabin / Stateroom

We had a balcony room and it was nice. The shower was actually big for a ship, BUT. The curtain was too long and covered the drain and wasnt wide enough, so when you finissh showering you find the bathroom flooded.
Thank God for the balcony because 3 full days a sea with horrible entertainment, we spent a lot of time in our room. The balcony was great for having a few beers on and relaxing.
Pros: The band Deshay was good.
Cons: the food, the ship itself, the entertainment, missing 2 port stops.
