First time cruisers and we will be back

Sail Date: January 28, 2012

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship was spacious, clean, and easily navigated (thanks to the maps by all elevators). Staff was excellent, friendly and accomodating. Food in main dining room was delicious and plentiful, but the buffet and cafe style restaurants were hit and miss, with long lines and limited hours. Room service took over two hours - and the orders were incorrect (though the food was fresh and good).

Pros: Variety and service

Cons: foul smells on cabin levels

Recommends Carnival Destiny (RETIRED)? Yes!

Ship Quality
This was our first cruise, so we didn't know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised with how organised, clean, and spacious the ship was. Never felt claustrophobic. Only issue was the foul sewage smells on several of the stateroom floors - that was continuous after the first day. There was no way to get around it.
Cabin / Stateroom
Stateroom was as advertised, always clean, quiet.
Food and Dining
Food choices in main dining room were always wonderful, wide variety, hot, and fresh! The buffet and Lido deck restaurants were not always open, as advertised, food was luke warm, at best, and wait time in lines (since other areas were closed) were extremely long.
Service and Staff
Staff was outstanding! Always friendly, all knew our names from first meeting. I can't say enough great things about them!
Entertainment
Wide range of activities, though schedule was running behind most days, and some scheduled activites were not done at all. By the time we congregated for scheduled activity and realized that it would not happen, we were too ,late to participate in other offerings. Better communication is necessary.

Cruise director was great-funny, engaging - knew how to handle a crowd. There were two comedians on board, one was terrific (saw him several times). Our stomachs and faces hurt from laughing so much; the other we saw twice, and watched as many people walked out... he was horrible! I don't think I heard ANYONE laugh... I hope that Carnival doesn't waste their money and rehire him again!
Children's Programs
Our 12 year old loved the activities, though when we checked in on her at times, there seemed to be little to no supervision during some activities.
