A Fantastic Birthday Get Away

Sail Date: December 13, 2010

Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Room Type: Balcony

We decided to go on an all girls trip for a friend and my birthdays just 10 days before the cruise left. We were able to still find awesome deals. This was my first cruise and I was very impressed with the experience. We sailed on the Carnival Destiny and loved the amenities offered as well as the lay out of the ship, everything was in good proximity to our room as well as most of the rooms on the ship.

Pros: Amazing hospitality, food, and beautiful ports.

Cons: Small beverage selection, all sodas, bottled water, and alcoholic beverages were an extra charge.

Food and Dining
There were two formal dining times, only the last was left when we booked, but we were very happy with that. Both times seemed to be conviniant and shows were booked around each dinner time. The food was absolutely amazing and all you can eat, each night was gourmet, we felt spoiled by all the great food as well as the hospitable and friendly wait staff which took the time to get to know us and gave excellent service.
Cabin / Stateroom
The second we walked in our room we were impressed. We got a corner room which was larger than many of the other rooms and all the balcony rooms had a very large balcony with a lounge chair and a table with two chairs, very nice to relax in and watch the open seas.
Service and Staff
The staff was amazing! That's all I have to say.
Through out the trip we found ourself with many options for entertainment. An area for improvement would be for the comedians to have more than one act instead of repeating the same material multiple times. Outdoor activities were scheduled for the private island of Half Moon Cay; however, the information and coordination of these activities could have been better.
Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The sand was like white powder and the water was the most mystical blue I have ever seen.
Nassau, Bahamas
The weather was a little cold and we opted to rent scooters to tour the island. We ended up on scooters with tour guides and really felt like we experienced the true island as well as the typical tourist spots. We had the opportunity to go to the pier, we even got to go behind the scenes and see the conch being pulled out the water and helped to take it out of the shell. We then toured the market while the conch was prepared for us. An amazing experience.
Grand Turk Island
We did the Discover Scuba excursion - no previous scuba experience is necessary. It was a great adventure. Our scuba instructors were friendly and knowledgeable. I felt like we were in great hands. We swam over the reef and saw incredible sea life. Also got to experience a local hangout "Jack's Shack" where we grabbed burgers and beers surrounded by beautiful scenery. Definitely did not want to leave :-)
