Ship: Carnival Destiny (RETIRED) 28 Reviewed: 7 years ago
Departed on 2/23/03 from San Juan for a Southern Caribbean itinerary. This was a last minute bargin basement deal. We have cruised on Royal Caribbean, Princess, and NCL, but never Carnival. Our expectation was not really that high as we expected a "party ship" atmosphere. The Good: The dinners in the main dining room were varied and well prepared. Most of the buffets were excellent too. Lunches in the main dining room were limited compared to other cruises we had been on.The entertainment was as good as other cruises we had taken. The itinerary was excellent. The Disappointments: We found the Destiny somewhat difficult to get around as only two of the 11 decks will permit you to move from one end of the ship to the other. It was renovated last year, but the interior is dark with a lot of corrugated copper panel. It also has a somewhat closed in feeling compared to other ships we have cruised on. There were not many activities on the sea days.
