We just returned from our first cruise and it was aboard the Carnival Destiny. We read all the reviews but didnt really take them to heart, and we were pleasantly surprised. We knew that we were not on a private yacht, and that the ship had been used a lot over the years. It was clean and nice, our room had a large window and was clean. Our cabin Steward Ronald was very nice and helpful. the only things I didnt like about the ship was the toilets smelled (more than with normal use LOL) there was no change machine in the laundry room so you had to go down the the information desk to get change. That was all about the ship. Now passengers I didnt like that fact that "some parents" brought their kids but yet dumped them off at Club O2 (which we heard was no really supervised and kids were drunk that werent old enough to drink) and the kids that werent in the Club O2 were left to run the ship and disrupt people an infringe on other passengers, that it just rude. If you dont want your kids hanging around you while you are drinking or getting sun, leave them at home. This was our first cruise so we left our kids with relatives to check it out and see if this is something we could all do as a family one day. We take our kids on family vacations each year so we wanted to see if they would like it, plus sometimes parents need time to themselves, but the ship is not a babysitter, so keep an eye on your kids especially the teenagers that were still talking about gym class and english and prom, yet they are holding beers in their hands and intoxicated. The food quality could have been a little better on board. You have to put everything on your sail and sign card, and you pay up front the $70 per person for taxes and gratuities, but you still have to pay taxes on all your drinks, gift shop purchases, etc... I dont recommend the teeth whitening $199 didnt work, but they did refund me the money, so that was nice. I felt all the staff was nice, and helpful. We loved all the ports St Thomas, Barbados, St Lucia, and Antigua. Dominica was pretty to look at from the ship, but not a nice place, very poor town. We did hear from other passengers that took tours there that once you got away from the town the rest of the island was pretty and the emerald pool tour was good. St Lucia was absolutely gorgeous. Very tropical and picturesque. I recommend the Land and Sea tour, the bus ride is a little long (I wouldnt recommend getting off at the stop for Anselaraye as it was not nice, but marigot bay was beautiful and the scenery was gorgeous a great way to see the island)the volcano was smelly (i recommend bring along a napkin soaked in lavender oil or something good and covering your mouth with that) but it was very interesting and neat to see. The town of Soufirere was neat and there was a beautiful old church there for a great picture, the pitons were so pretty and the catamaran back to the ship was nice and got great pictures of the pitons from the boat. The Rocket fule punch was great (180 proof) you couldnt tell the rum was that stong. Drink up! Barbados was a blast I recommend the 5 star catamaran and turtle snorkel tour, it was awsome and they took such good care of you and made sure you had plenty to drink and eat, the food was awesome and the drinks plenty!!!Antigua was beautiful once you got out of the town of St John (busy and dirty city a lot of Vendors) We took a taxi to Turners beach for the day and it was beautiful and quiet and relaxing a perfect postcard. I also recommend Darkwood beach if you want seclusion and peace and quiet. Jolly beach it you want to be around people and see whats going on, very beautiful beach. It was about $32 both ways to the beach fo rthe both of us. I miss it already. boo hoo. St Thomas was good for shopping I wouldnt recommend Magens Bay, it wasnt that great, I would research and find other better beaches. Be prepared to pay $8 per person each way. OVerall great trip. vacation is what YOU make of it! Enjoy
