Good value, fun time, so-so entertainment

This was my first time on Carnival, having also cruised on Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. Overall I have to rate Carnival below those two, but we still had a great time escaping frigid New England! The crew was friendly and helpful at all times. I felt that onboard activities and entertainment were definitely not as good as other cruises. While we all make allowances for on-board entertainment (we understand we're not paying $100 a seat in Vegas or NYC), the entertainment offerings here were definitely below expectations. The exception was comedian John McDonald who was superb. The dining experience was good with an assigned table every night and dedicated servers (unlike NCL's "freestyle" which sucks), but the food was merely "fine". No particular objections, just not great (like Royal Caribbean). The gym is well provisioned but under staffed. We chose this cruise mainly for the itinerary (FLL, Jamaica, Cayman, Cozumel) and the schedule; no regrets. But we'll probably lean toward RCC or NCL next time.

Cruise Photos

Ship Quality
Clean and well-maintained. Decor is a bit tacky, though. :-)
Food and Dining
Not as good as other cruises.
Cabin / Stateroom
Cabin worked well for us, and steward was awesome.
Service and Staff
Consistently friendly and helpful.
Entertainment
Really unimpressed with the entertainment this time. Despite the SIGNIFICANT investment in technology for the main stage, the performances just didn't measure up.
Onboard Activities
This cruise seemed to be short staffed in the recreation department. Relatively few onboard activities compared to others I've been on.
Destinations and Excursions
Really enjoyed the trip to the Mayan ruins at Tulum.
Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida
Chill on the beach waiting to embark.
Ocho Rios, Jamaica
More beach time.
George Town, Grand Cayman
Swimming with stingrays.
Cozumel, Mexico
Mayan ruins at Tulum.
