Sail Date: May 01, 2012 Ship: Carnival Conquest Cabin Type: Balcony Traveled As: Large Group Reviewed: 5 years ago
Overall the ship was nice. The attendants were friendly and always smiled. The pools were very nice and especially liked the saltwater in them the couple times we went. That being said I found that the crew could get annoying. They try to sell you alcohol, watches, spa treatments, excursions, steakhouse reservations. . . constantly.. . . . CONSTANTLY. The ship was packed to the gills with people. The lines were very bad except at the bars. Everything had a line. I think there was even a line to get in line getting off the ship and a lot of hurry up and wait. Getting on and off the boat was a pain, long lines, security (alcohol) checks. This is going to be our first and last cruise and is getting replaced by an all inclusive resort for the next vacation. We even got stuck on a sandbar and they lied about it blaming the anchor. Have lots of pictures of that one.
Food and Dining

Absolutely horrid, bland, tough, overcooked, fishy. Even said once you cant screw up potatoes then quickly took that back and we had a joke about that the whole week. The variety was impressive but every night was try this and see how to not do ____. The first thing I did when I got back to Nola was ate. We lived off of salads for a week while we were out there. Wife loved the ice cream machine.

There were a couple bands on board that all played easy listening type music. I asked if they knew any rock and they said YES! Brian Adams!! I got a chuckle out of that. It's all played to a midi file that makes it very karaoke-ish. The comedians were good but it was hard to get into the show because that was the only thing worth watching on the ship.
Service and Staff

The staff was very friendly however there is a severe language barrier. I get the feeling this is intentional through carnival. We couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone. The wife asked if they had guacamole and the lady pointed to the tomatoes.

Ship was nice. It took a while to get used to the layout but once we got it figured out we could get anywhere on the ship reasonably quickly. It was clean and impressive. The only reason for the rating was we were docked next to the carnival dream and it made us look tiny.
Cabin / Stateroom

Nice room, had a balcony and it was worth the upgrade. They check the room twice a day and we always had ice, towels, anything we asked for. The folded towel animals were really cool and something we looked forward to when they were changed around. The shower didn't work the first night we were there but that was taken care of the next day because we didn't get into the room until about midnight, took cold showers and went to bed.
Pros: Ice Cream Machine, Rockstar Ross (a bartender), getting off the boat.
