Rough at Seas by stvnkeeler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My experience was everything i expected and more. For the price i got my room at, I have only positive thoughts about my vacation. If i could make a couple suggestions: "Washy washy..." request me to wash my hands, don't force me or corner me into washing. Also, the coastal roughness of seas, i was puking my brains out from NJ to FL, i know it would be hard to change that... but get on :) again, no complaints tho. Thanks for a great experience.

Amazing time! by ourreview

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The cruise was overall amazing! We enjoyed every second of it. The staff was amazing except one person lol. The food was awesome we mostly ate at the windjammer on deck 14. We loved the islands although we wished we had more time! Loved that they served lunch on cococay! Everything was wonderful. We didn't like that it was packed with really old people and kids. There was no clubs or party's for us to enjoy. Besides that great time!

An excellent cruise by cggrossman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Our cruise was wonderful. Excellent food, excellent staff, everyone tried hard to make our cruise fun and memorable. The cruise director, Dru, was just terrific; he had enthusiasm, a great sense of humor and tried hard to make everyone have a good time. One small nitpick, he tends to speed up his words as he wraps up an event and some coming attractions were a bit tough to understand. But he was as good as it gets for everything else. Dru is tops! The only other criticism was the show "The Gift." The singers and dancers were wonderful, totally professional and extremely talented. But for four-fifths of the show, you had no idea where you were in a difficult to follow story. One has to care about characters, and with little or no dialogue, and a score that really didn't advance the story welI, I had absolutely no idea what was going on. You needed about 10-15 sentences of dialogue at the beginning or in the middle for me to become immersed in the story. By the end, the characters did not resonate because I didn't care. A real shame because the performers were all excellent. Please, please get rid of the show and replace it with a better program. Heard complaints from others as well about being able to follow along with the story. Name That Tune was really well done. In conclusion, you had a difficult task in appealing to many, many people and you did it extremely well. Yes, I'd go back to this ship.

Anthem needs serious overhaul. This ship must have been beaten up in the storm by LoveToCruise007

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Sailed in Oasis and Freedom class ships. If you expect smooth sail like the other RCL ships, you will be very much disappointed with Anthem. Especially, if you are first time cruiser, avoid this specific ship. RCL has so many other ships that are much better.

Anthem of the Sea by dinogumby

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Everything was quite nice and yes and no I would recommend this cruise.  The no would be for the reason that I would have liked to stay at a port longer.  But since this was my first cruise; I can't complain but now know what I want for future cruises.  It was a great first experience.

Improvements would be less formal nights.  When on vacation, I don't particularly want to dress up for dinner.

Our winter getaway vacation by vanauken53

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our first time on the Anthem of the Seas. I was expecting it to be bigger on the interior. I'm used to the Explorer of the Seas which has at least a three level center aisle promenade. Anthem had a two level side esplanade which gave it the smaller feel.

The service was excellent as usual, food was outstanding and entertainment was a little of both outstanding and good. Loved the comedians but not so much the shows.

Over all had an Outstanding time and would recommend it to family and friends.

Can't wait until next year for our next cruise on Royal Caribbean.

Love

Bigger isn't Better by derontaylor

Maybe it's me. This is the second mega-ship that I've been on that didn't meet my expectations. Maybe I had such a wonderful time on the 2k passenger ships vs these monstrous 4k+ behemoth ships. Inn talking with the crew , they feel the same way. The smaller ships offer a better , truer cruising experience. The megas are all about the wow and less about the cruise.

Great way to explore Bahamas with cruise, entertainment are good for all age. Especially for kids. Dining experience is awesome. Very nice and friendly crew staffs. Feel a bit of boring on sea days. No too much off cruise time.

somewhat disappointed by jyhagarty

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The food was very good and the service excellent.  Renate, the young lady taking care of our stateroom was wonderful.

Right off the bat, when you are an older couple, screaming and jumping children on each side of your room is not exactly heartwarming.  Plus someone was doing aerobatics on the room above our room.  Maybe there could be a deck just for couples with children only.  You pay a lot of money to cruise in such a beautiful ship and peace and quiet would be nice.

This was our first cruise and probably our last.  Epcot center was old and outdated.  Too many people on the ship although everything seemed to run well.

I am very aware you can't please everyone.  That being said maybe some changes might encourage us to go again.  We'll see.

Overall is good trip. The meals and restaurants are excellent.

Steam room and sauna in Spa area Happyare charged $30/day is expensive.

Spectra show is excellent...

new technology such as wine mixing is excellent.

North Star, water slide, car riding activities are very good , but hard to get in because all are booked.

Classy Mega Liner by lowsenek

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Wonderful cruise with top notch crew, restaurants, and entertainment.  It was our second cruise on this boat in six months.  Bargain hawking discount merchandise in main lobby areas was a little less than classy, wine too expensive and TV programming sadly lacking, but on balance, it was a great cruise.

Great Time by evanhouten

Good couple's massage.  Employees very accommodating.  Delicious food. Excellent shows especially Clint Holmes.  He was from Las Vegas. and his show was top notch.  Excursions were fun.  Coco Cay was a lovely island with palm trees and plenty of beach and beach chairs.  The food was provided by the boat, and it was excellent.  Tip--eat early before 2 p.m.  Atlantis is a place to visit.

Disappointing cruise by bobanne5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The embarkation & disembarkation were both horrible! The road into the terminal is awful. The food was terrible for 3 days .Did improve the rest of the cruise. Service iffy in many locations. Not enough staff members to handle 4600 passengers!! Some staff very rude.Never had a dining room open while in port. Never had this on other lines! The buffet is a catastrophe! Mattress in our stateroom was like a rock. Bathroom was too small! Ship allowed the Asian passengers to be very loud in the dining room. Ship states a dress code for dining room but let people in wearing shorts, t shirts, hats & torn jeans, even at dinner. What a joke! When making bed would keep pillows on the dirty sofa. Security guard nearly broke my expensive RX glasses & did not even apologize. Sewer gas smell in cabin. Not enough elevators for this many people! After telling guest relations twice that we must leave ship with friends to catch our bus, we were given times 45 minutes apart to disembark!! Need to make sure all staff can speak & understand English! Lighting in staterooms are really poor. Need brighter lights.

1st cruise a success by marbuhlman444

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

the ship is marvelous, well-appointed and extremely well-staffed; while onboard I booked another cruise on the same ship and I would recommend the 'Anthem' to any potential cruise-taker; since this was my 1st cruise I was slightly apprehensive but from the moment I arrived to embark I was amazed at the friendliness and helpfulness of the Royal Carib members who went out of their way to assist. For example, I arrived to embark without all my luggage (airline misplaced one checked bag) and it did arrive by messenger about 30-40 minutes prior to sailing. The RC staff at the embarkation location went out of their way to ensure that I was reunited with my bag when it arrived.

The ship was amazing. Found plenty of things to do. I especially enjoyed the Windjammer for most of our meals . Very good variety of foods. The entertainment was good and similar to Broadway shows. The staff was exceptional, all were very friendly and accommodating.

Ship layout terrible try having a cup of coffee at the Promenade without getting stepped on. by jford1000000

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Ship layout is a disaster I have been on a many of Royal Caribbean cruises and this was by far the worst ship I have been on. The Promenade was terrible you could not have a cup of coffee without getting stepped on because the cruise ship had sales in the main isles. The Promenade food did not have many choices of food to offer like all the cruises I  have been on. This ship needs lots of improvements. I will consider other cruise lines after this cruise.

Lots of "i's" to dot and "t's" to cross by Disappointed2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Anthem of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This cruise ship has a lot of potential if only the officers just paid more attention to details.  The non-mgt. staff were excellent in delivering the services and goods the ship provided but their hands were tied in many other respects.  Please see list below for examples:

The outside balcony had no lights to turn on.  How were we supposed to sit outside and enjoy the view or read in the evenings without lights?

Lights over couch did not have separate controls. This is important because while one passenger slept, the other could read in the area where the couch was located.

Lamp on dresser / bar is fixed in an awkward position and therefore the space above the dresser cannot be fully utilized.

Talking points before arriving at our ports-of-call consisted of 3 minutes of useful information (where to pick up taxis, etc...) and 30 minutes of Diamond International, Tanzinite, etc.... In fact, ALL talks before each port-of-call consisted of the same plug-ins for the same vendors.  It became a running joke among passengers.

There should have been more academic type of lectures on the next island / port-of-call we would be visiting.

On the 3rd day of the cruise, the ship ran out of pina colada mix. They did not run out of the alcohol but the mix itself. Think about how ironic that is: a cruise in the Caribbean and no pina colada!

A sign in the pool area stated that towels left unattended would be removed (so as to prevent passengers from reserving select pool-side chairs for hours on end). Unfortunately, this rule was NOT enforced by the ship's staff.  It should have been.

Food was not that tasty. We have had better tasting food on other cruise lines.

The restaurant staff did an excellent job in serving us and attending to our needs.

We checked our on board expenses the night before arrival with Guest Services and all charges were accurate and accounted for. Upon returning home, we were charged $5.84 for using the mini-bar when it was empty throughout our trip and our $75.00 onboard credit was removed from our final charges.
