Review summary

This was an amazing ship with an amazing itinerary. I would highly recommend the ship and the itinerary. Make sure you take advantage of going to at least 1 specialty restaurant during your cruise. It is extra, but it is 100% worth it.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We uploaded the security pictures before we left and the check-in agent had to retake all of them. We followed all of the directions (stand in front of white background, head shot only, etc.) but they still had to retake them which was annoying considering that I spent the time at home doing it to avoid doing it at the terminal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The specialty restaurants were fantastic with great food and service. The Windjammer buffet had a great selection of food and the quality of food I think was some of the best buffet food I have had on a cruise ship. The main dining room was a little bit of a let down. We only ate there twice and the food was just ok there.

Chops Grille

5 out of 5

We ate here twice with a dining package and both times the food was exceptional. I would say it was the best meal I had all cruise.

Johnny Rockets

3 out of 5

The food was good, nothing over the top, but just ok. I hated the layout of it. You don't get seated with a waiter and order that was, you go up to a desk, order, sit down, and go get your food when you are called. I hated this because it was a little chaotic and it made me feel like I was ordering from a fast food restaurant which was not the type of experience that I was expecting. On no other Royal Caribbean ship was the Johnny Rockets experience as bad as on Anthem.

Wonderland

4 out of 5

The service was fantastic. Our waiter Christian was great. The quality of food I would say ranged from very good to excellent. It is a very interesting concept and I liked that. Some of the dishes were definately better than others, but there was no bad dish.

Schooner Bar

5 out of 5

We came here every night before dinner. We met a great friend, Edy, who was one of the bar tenders. We really enjoyed his service as well as the live music in the lounge.

Windjammer Marketplace

5 out of 5

I loved the variety of food and was pleasantly surprised at how good the quality of food was compared to other Royal Caribbean ships.

Solarium Bistro

4 out of 5

We ate here one night and the food was just ok and the service was EXTREAMELY slow that night. The appetizers and desserts are buffet style which I liked.

Jamie's Italian

4 out of 5

We ate here night 1 with our dining package and the food was excellent. I give it 4 stars because the service was slow. Since we had 7 people, they brought out every appetizer to share family style, which we really enjoyed.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There was plenty (almost too much!) to do all around the ship at any point of the day. Whether it is trivia or trapeze school, there is something for everyone.

Running Track

4 out of 5

I like the fact that it is less than 3 times around is a mile. I like how they have the track on the Oasis class ships better because it is covered. On Anthem, every morning the track would be soaking wet and make it very slippery. I had to slow down when I had to turn on the track so that I didn't slip and fall.

Entertainment

5 out of 5

North Star

5 out of 5

We were able to walk right up on day 1 after we sailed away and there was no wait so we just hopped on. This ended up being great because we were scheduled for day 4, a sea day, but our session got canceled because North Star wasn't working properly.

Two70

5 out of 5

Two70 had excellent views no matter what time of day it was. I would often get a snack and bring it to Two70 and look out the windows. Great spot.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our stateroom attendant Rica and our favorite server at the Schooner Bar Edy were fantastic. Another shoutout to Christian, our waiter at Wonderland. Great job by each and every staff member on board, they really made the trip fantastic.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Loved the Bars and Lounges. Would spend much time in each lounge and we often got to know each server a little bit.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Book everything you can before the cruise. Book iFly, Northstar, and the shows before the cruise because spots will fill up very quickly.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

4 out of 5

King's Wharf, Bermuda

4 out of 5
We went to Warwick Long Bay and had a great time. The only issue was that it was cloudy all day with a few quick, but violent, rain storms.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Maho Beach is a great spot for people going to St. Maarten for the first time like us. A taxi fare is $16 round trip per person.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
We didn't get off the ship

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
We did the zip-line which was so much fun. After that we spent hours and hours at Nelli's Beach which was fantastic. We had perfect weather which made for the perfect day in Labadee.

Which specialty restaurants did you try? My husband and I try to eat at each specialty restaurant at least once and it looks like the Anthem has a lot. I see you’ve been on the Grandeur, how would you compare Giovanni’s to Jamie’s? We tried all the restaurants (Chops, Giovanni’s and Izumi) on the Grandeur and all of them were amazing! Izumi was our favorite out of the three, so we ate there 3 times on our trip. (We had the 5 restaurant package). I can’t wait to go on the Anthem!!
