Wonderful 17 day cruise. Staff and meals were very good. Older, smaller ship was nice as you could meet and become friends with many people. Second trip on HA. Would recommend to anyone.

The Panama Canal is so amazing. You can never see it too many times. This was our second trip through. Different ports this time. Last trip on the Oosterdan which is a little bigger than the Amsterdam. It had duelling pianos which we really enjoyed. Hope Amsterdam will get them too. Went on a tour at every port as we are a pretty active pair of “old folks”. So nice to go on a cruise over Christmas and New Years and being from Alberta Canada it’s nice to get away from the cold weather for a while too. Would recommend this trip to anyone. There were a few kids on this cruise too and I they sure had fun at the pool.
The ship is aging gracefully. The staff is the friendliest and most helpful I've met outside of the Disney Cruise Line. I didn't meet one staff member I wished to avoid and several I would have hired.
The most interesting aspect of this cruise was seeing the Polynesian and Melanesian island cultures. All are basically "stone age" cultures -- I say this not as an insult but by noting that the islands have no metals, thus no progression through the tin, bronze, and iron ages. Clearly a common background, each island has their own unique take and their culture. All have added some western tools and traditions, most notably Christianity, but these are still clearly overlays not fully integrated into their way of life.
As a westerner, I certainly couldn't long stand living there, but for those not accustomed to, or not appreciative of, modern life, I can see it would be very attractive.
28 Night South American Incan Experience

Disappointed. We are 4 star with Holland and were excluded from the medal ceremony. We are always included, but not this time. Holland has dumb downed their activities and disappointed. Liked the size of the ship and their personnel. Feel like they don't care like they used to do. Several said the same. Looking at other cruise lines now.
HAL has a one night cruises from Seattle to Vancouver. One night cruises are very inexpensive trips and they are offen less expensive than a night on the time. HAL does not cut back on services offered on the short cruises and they make it a great trip. We highly recommend taking a short cruise if you’re close to Seattle or Vancouver. They’re a lot of fun. The short cruises do count towards your Mariner Society
Very good, relaxing cruise. Unfortunately, it rained almost every day but were still able to get ashore. This was our fourth time cruising Alaska and it didn't disappoint. Holland America does a wonderful job with food, service, entertainment, and ambiance. Looking forward to our next cruise in December.
We really enjoyed our cruise but we do have a few gripes . On the day we visited tracy arm glacier someone in tn their wisdom decided to varnish the hand rails on the aft deck, consequently you could not lean on the rails whilst viewing the scenery as it was still wet. We also missed out on the full tour in Seattle due to the bus breaking down but that was just the luck of the draw. Also got a bit fed up of seeing diamonds international and the like in nearly every port. We were not impressed at shows onboard especially if you compare with the likes of celebrity.
We were certainly lucky during our two weeks in Alaska. Great food, great weather (the northern lights came out a few nights), new ports for us. The staff were all friend, helpful and very good at doing there assigned jobs.
Liked the flow of ports and sea days. Interesting stops like Homer and Kodak not every line does. Pinnacle and Canaletto are getting too expensive with additional charges for aged steak and lobster tail. Bottled wine about 3x what it cost but I guess this is not just HAL - all cruise lines except all inclusive charge the same.
Best deal- Happy Hour - you can get two big bottles of San Pellegrino for about &7 and a second drink for $2 more. The Dive In has great burgers and a good taco bar.
This was a great itinerary and we chose this cruise for that very reason. It did not disappoint! Incredible scenery, wildlife and Alaska is just unbelievable! We have cruised many times and the onboard activities & extravagant amenities like rock climbing walls, etc. are not why we cruise. We use the ship as a floating hotel and restaurant to take us places we want to see. And this cruise did all of that and more!
I had a great time on my first Alaskan Cruise. It definitely won't be my last. I did tours (ship based) at each port, and still felt I missed things! It was exciting, yet I felt calm and well looked after on the ship. I went solo on this cruise, and though I didn't mind it, I will work harder to bring a travel-buddy for the next adventure!
