Hi the service was excellent. Food was good. I would have liked more at least one golf excursion. Too much of food contained alcohol.our room Stewart and waiter were extremely attentive.

Alaska is amazing, Weather was awful by dons1000

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Holland America is always good. We had really bad weather and changes to the schedule due to a storm in the Gulf of Alaska. We did end up going through 85 MPH winds and 20 to 30 ft. seas for several hours. The Amsterdam was nice but not over the top like our last cruise on HA...

Storm-caused itinerary change works to our benefit by caseypug2001

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Due to storm, we dropped Sitka, switched Hubbard Glacier to Dawes, spent a longer day in Ketchikan, and a full day and evening in Victoria. Plus we avoided a storm in the Gulf of Alaska with 40'+ swells and 75mph wind gusts. Worked for me!

Great experience by Ironoma

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Amsterdam is a classy ship. Fancy dining room with amazing food. Great buffet with something for everyone. Nice fitness center with challenging spin classes and good equipment. Cabins are nice, with comfortable beds, adequate closet space. My grandaughter loved shipflix, for the sea days where the weather got a bit rough.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was awesome, crew was very friendly and eager to help. The Ms Amsterdam was a good size to get around on. There were plenty of restaurants and bars. Our sit down dining experience was one of the best. The waiters and wine steward were excellent.

Relaxing beautiful cruise by cboballen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This is a cruise for those who want to just relax and see beautiful country from the comfort of the ship or for those who want to explore Alaska from many other vantage points.   Loved the smaller sixe of the Amsterdam and will cruise on this ship again.

Alaska - The Last Frontier by Cruiser386

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Favorite part of the cruise was the Ketchikan excursion via float plan to the Misty Fjords.  Dinners were excellent especially the formal nights.  Pinnacle Grill was outstanding for steak and lobster.  Room service was best for breakfast.  Lido deck was just OK for lunch.  Try the burger bar for lunch and don't miss the salmon bbq on the lido deck.

Worst overall cruise ever by samallen777

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our favorite part of the cruise was the friendly staff.  That's where it ended.  When we checked into our state room it was not clean, items in drawers, etc.  The big window we paid extra for was above the bed, so no way to look out unless you stood up in the room?  The TV was too high and you could not use the remote from the sofa or the bed, you had to stand up to use it?  On top of that the programming was terrible and the screen was so dark, we got to listen to it instead of watching it.  A couple days in we smelled a foul order coming from our bathroom and found out there were leaks upstairs causing this.   When I went to buy a beverage program, I told the bar manager I wanted a package, but that my wife mostly drank tea, so I only wanted one.  He said don't worry man sign here and gave me two cards.  I said I only wanted one.  He said, " It's ok you pay and you are both covered, and I said are you sure and he said yes.  When we got our bill we were charged two drink packages for $361.83 each.  When I challenged it, they said sorry.   The food in the extra value restuarants was great.  The Lido deck food sucked.  I have never seen so much over cooked food.  I felt like I was eating leftovers everyday.  This was our 14th cruise for our 36th anniversary and only the 2nd cruise we were disappointed in.  I have more examples of how Holland America is a cheap cruise.  The value for the dollar is just not there!

Solo Traveler Fun by ygreco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

First off, I had a great time. As a 'solo traveler' I knew my trip would be most enjoyable if I could find a few other 'solos' to spend time with and that happened, both because of the ship's team organizing meet/greet events for us and because I went with an open attitude. I met engaging, interesting people and yet had time to spend by myself when I wanted it.

I had great experiences each 'on-shore' day, 'coptered to the Mendenhall Glacier, did the Misty Fyords in Ketchican and had a luxurious High Tea in Victoria, each while accompanied by my new found solo friends.

All in all, it was a great experience which I would recommend.

A Fine Cruise Experience by f3red

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We were delighted with all aspects of the cruise, especially the "Discover Alaska's Whales" excursion out of Juneau - we saw several episodes of bubble-net feeding (Yay!) and got hit with whale breath (Eewww...). Only had one hour at Hubbard Glacier, though, originally expecting upt to four hours.

The Good, The Bad and the great.. A step above the rest. by priceline

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I was more delighted with the experience offered by Holland America than another cruise line. HA did not take a casual approach or interest in muster, health and my safety in general. Some of my positive experience probably had to do with clientele that was more to my liking.

The entertainment was great. I saw a wedding party on board with little kids, all the way up to grandparents. There was something for everyone; Gameshows, Movies, Comedians, Jugglers, Live band, Swimming, Ping Pong, Free in-room movies, and on and on. Not an extra fee for room service either. I even got a haircut on board. They offered meetings on the culture and history of what we will see to maximize our shore experience even if we were not purchasing an excursion.

The bad... I would have liked to have been able to approach the Hubbard glacier without the constant dialog of our guide. She was knowledgable. However, it would have been great to have a place where one could experience approach without constant berash of every random thought. For me I just wanted to take in the serenity beauty and grandeur of the experience with the natural sounds of the ocean, glacier and wildlife.  In addition, some of the maps and paper handouts had small fonts or colored dots with numbers that where impossible to read unless you where under 45 and had excellent vision. Sometimes I had to take a picture with my phone and then zoom in. These things were very minor but worth mentioning.

If you have only cruised to tropical destinations, I would definitely recommend you get out of the heat and join this Alaskan cruse.

Everything was of the best. No complaints except I was not issued a transfer ticket before getting to airport. Had some difficulty getting taken to ship but finally got this taken care of. Only problem we had.

Exceptional Experience by BlackHawkDriver

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We embarked on an Alaskan Cruise with Holland America on the MS. Amsterdam to fulfill a bucket list item for my 84 year old father. From the moment we boarded the ship we were greeted with exceptional hospitality from the entire staff. Our room attendants were on a first name basis with us from the moment we boarded and were extremely helpful with the needs of my elderly father. The programs and seminars onboard were interesting and useful. The entertainment from large shows, to movies and lounge performers were all excellent and approachable to the passengers. The port destinations were interesting and enjoyable with a wide selection of excursions available to the traveler. The Captain demonstrated exceptional skill in bring the ship in to position to view the Hubbard Glacier. The Command crew kept the passengers well informed on upcoming ports of call and general administrative announcements on the ships Public Adress System. The nightly turn down service including the next day's itinerary and ship schedule was a welcome surprise and extremely useful. This was the first cruise for both of us and was an Exceptional Experience. I would Highly Recommend cruising on the Holland America ships to anyone planning a vacation cruise. I found the experience to be pleasant, affordable and memorable. I plan to set sail again on a Holland America vessel in the near future.Happy

LOVED OUR TRIP! by Cruiser71931368

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This Alaskan cruise was a last minute whim for my neighbor and me. Our cruise company rep, Barbara Rice, recommended Holland America for us. The ship is elegant and beautifully decorated. The food is delicious and the SERVICE is way beyond great! For the price, this trip cannot be topped. Both my neighbor and I agree, this was the best and most relaxing vacation ever!

Exceeded our expectations by my6kidsdad

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Highly recommended. Alaska was marvelous. We were within a quarter mile of Hubbard glacier, could hear the cracks like gunshots and watch the calving. What an amazing sight. This would not have been as good on a larger ship that couldn't have gotten as close. The crew was flawless, the food good and the activities interesting. The worst part of the trip was having it end.
