Wonderful Alaskan Cruise

If you like to sail, this is a good cruise. We enjoyed the time on the ship as much as the ports as we were traveling with friends. Many people relaxed with a book near a window in a lounge. We like to play cards as did many others. Not much to do for children , but there were a few.

Excellent Alaska cruise itinerary, the embarkation and diembarkation process was smooth. We like the fact that we did not have to wait in a long line.

Amazing Alaska

All together, I enjoyed this Alaskan cruise very much. May want to come back next year with some of my siblings. I enjoyed all the ports that we docked on. Some of the ports are walking distance to the town or a free shuttle bus that will take you to downtown are available.

SOLID ALASKA CHOICE

Amsterdam is the perfect ship to visit Alaska. The ship's size allows it to dock at smaller ports and the 14 day itinerary was super. The captain's political comments should be kept to himself-not appropriate!

Alaska is Worth the Trip

Verified Review

This was our first Alska cruise and the trip was worth it. We chose it for the most places to visit in one trip at a reasonable price. Holland America Line was very good in taking care of us. The food was terrific, entertainment was PG rated, and the staff were courteous & professional. The only thing I would be careful is what ever you buy double check their packing because it may not survive the return trip. If seeing Denali is a must, consider a land trip, because we booked a flight from Anchorage and it was weathered out. We would consider going up there again with HAL but in late summer to see different variety of wildlife.

Excellent cruise

We just finished this cruise and have no complaints. Food, service, and ship were all great. The ship is small enough to get around but big enough to have plenty to do. Shows were good, esp the ventriloquist, comedy show and the pianist. The Pinnacle grill is excellent. You can do lunch there on sea days for 10.00 but book early. Ports were great. We had wonderful weather, high 50's and sunny whole trip. The crew were all very pleasant and did there best to make sure you had a great trip. They have a large DVD library to use while you are on board and they have new movies in theatre and on tv to watch. Would reccomnd this cruise and hope to do it again. We have cruised on Viking, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Carnival.

Fun Cruise

Verified Review

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

This is a fun cruise that we enjoyed. The ports and glacier viewing were great. The dining and the staff were wonderful. However, there are a few items that we did not enjoy as much as we have on other Holland America cruises. On this cruise, there were not as many activities and/or classes, particularly on sea days. There were no Microsoft classes. It was also disappointing to be in Victoria from only 6 pm to 11:00 pm. On future cruises, we will look for an itinerary that includes more time in Victoria.

Everything was perfect and well thought out. The crew members could not be nicer. The only thing is the internet. We paid for 1000 minutes and wasted about 600 minutes waiting for loading.. They blame the satellite. Three years ago was the same thing. Princess on the other hand, gives you 2000 minutes per person and it works. Definitely they should be able to do something about.

Hawaii Cruise

Verified Review

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Had a pleasant relaxing Hawaii cruise.   No icebergs encountered.  Good food, lots to do on ship.  Would have liked a longer stay in Honolulu.  Friendly crew, multiple shore excursions available at each port or just go ashore and do it yourself.

Hawaii before Christmas

Verified Review

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

we loved our cruise. Cruising is new to us but enjoyed the people and cruise line.  Holland America treated us like royalty. We were younger than most of our cruise mates but found people friendly and socialable.  The 5 days at sea on way "home" seemed long- no internet to connect to our children!   Also, missed "Christmas" season mood setting! We will use holland America again. Also, was a good price and Dorthea our agent was very helpful!

Hi the service was excellent. Food was good. I would have liked more at least one golf excursion. Too much of food contained alcohol.our room Stewart and waiter were extremely attentive.

The Amsterdam is a classy ship. Fancy dining room with amazing food. Great buffet with something for everyone. Nice fitness center with challenging spin classes and good equipment. Cabins are nice, with comfortable beds, adequate closet space. My grandaughter loved shipflix, for the sea days where the weather got a bit rough.

Storm-caused itinerary change works to our benefit

Verified Review

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Due to storm, we dropped Sitka, switched Hubbard Glacier to Dawes, spent a longer day in Ketchikan, and a full day and evening in Victoria. Plus we avoided a storm in the Gulf of Alaska with 40'+ swells and 75mph wind gusts. Worked for me!

Alaska is amazing, Weather was awful

Sail Date: / Traveled As: Couple

Holland America is always good. We had really bad weather and changes to the schedule due to a storm in the Gulf of Alaska. We did end up going through 85 MPH winds and 20 to 30 ft. seas for several hours. The Amsterdam was nice but not over the top like our last cruise on HA...

Alaska - The Last Frontier

Favorite part of the cruise was the Ketchikan excursion via float plan to the Misty Fjords.  Dinners were excellent especially the formal nights.  Pinnacle Grill was outstanding for steak and lobster.  Room service was best for breakfast.  Lido deck was just OK for lunch.  Try the burger bar for lunch and don't miss the salmon bbq on the lido deck.

This is a cruise for those who want to just relax and see beautiful country from the comfort of the ship or for those who want to explore Alaska from many other vantage points.   Loved the smaller sixe of the Amsterdam and will cruise on this ship again.
