ALASKA AT ITS BEST!!! by karengilbert

Thank you for a beautiful cruise. We will always use Holland America—for their care in choosing staff that is helpful, willing, and manage to be joyous and happy at the same time. How do you do it? Wow! The Captain was stellar, experienced, gave confidence in the ship and the ship lines. The food was good, but could have used more variety—perhaps a different ‘special’ (Chinese, Mexican, Indian, etc.) instead of just an Italian station. We had a spectacular ‘wait’ staff in the Lido, and I must comment on them in particular. They were so very helpful.

It was not a good cruise -crummy window--no view, missed port of Sitka .Played in a poker tournament ,made the board then watched the dealer couched players into getting into the finals .I asked him to stop couching people but he did not . Another first .I have never seen a dealer couch players --that is not there job .People pay money to play ,then have the ship dealer couch players past you that is not RIGHT. I have won other tournament on other ships before . tanks dealer... Way to many kids running around ,could not even get close to the swimming pool or hot tub. We like to play pin-pong but again no way with all the kids .We will Never go in the summer again . no more Amsterdam ...

Great Alaskan Cruise featuring Hubbard Glacier! by Grandparentgrp

This was a great cruise to take grandchildren on. The ship was just the right size not to feel lost and Alaska is an interesting trip to take them on. Our 13year old grandson loved the Hubbard glacier, the rainforest in Sitka and the short stop in Victoria. Sorry we had to misss Ketchikan due to last minute ship itinerary change. Grandson loved the comedians at night. Lots of wholesome family activity—swimming, ping pong etc. good kid food—Mac and cheese, toasted cheese, burgers and fries, spaghetti, pizza— no kid complaints about the food!

We enjoyed our cruise, but we would like Holland America to offer more games, contests and activities on the sea days. We would like to have more time in the ports. The customer service was outstanding in every way.

Such Fun We Had! by chetsbabe

This was our 13th cruise, the first with Holland America, and we really enjoyed the ship. A smaller and older crowd was just to our liking, and we also liked how easy it was to find a quiet place to relax. We had a Vista Suite balcony and loved the space and the size of the shower in particular. It was a real home-size shower instead of the little corner shower like on other balcony rooms. We had a wonderful time with our extended family of 12 total!

Ultimate Panama Canal cruise! by Cruiser53265473

The Amsterdam is an elegant ship with service to match. The staff couldn’t be lovelier! Our vists to the ports of call went smoothly and we loved our at sea days as well! There were so many fun activities, especially the presentations by America’s Test Kitchens! The main stage evening entertainment was top notch. We also enjoyed the lounge entertainment by Adagio, the jazz quartet and Rafael at the piano bar. The dining room’s three course meals were superb in quality and choices. Exercise facility was good and the teakwood walking track outside on deck three was wonderful. We even tried acupuncture for the first time! So much to like! The library is an awesome place with a great selection of books as well. We chose open seating for dining and were always seated promptly at a table for two. Though we ate by ourselves we had plenty of opportunities to meet people. This was our first cruise of any length (more than 3 day’s) and we love Holland America!

Panama Canal East to West by journalistmom

First time on Holland America in a while. Lots of lovely people, except for a few crabby Americans. Shipboard activities were sparse considering all of the sea days on this transitioning cruise. Loved the Test Kitchen, half the movies were good, and the entertainment at night was mediocre except for the comic magician and the singers/dancers. Harp lady and comic from Las Vegas were downright bad. Panama Canal was magical as were some of the ports. Too bad the cruise line is very interested in upselling you more activities.

14 days not enough by rlightner

We have taken this cruise (14 days) 15 times and it amazes us how it just gets better each time. We plan on going again twice next year. This was one of the best cruises so far. The captain got us very close to the Hubbard Glacier and we were able to stay there for an hour. Saw a lot of calving.

If you like to sail, this is a good cruise. We enjoyed the time on the ship as much as the ports as we were traveling with friends. Many people relaxed with a book near a window in a lounge. We like to play cards as did many others. Not much to do for children , but there were a few.

All together, I enjoyed this Alaskan cruise very much. May want to come back next year with some of my siblings. I enjoyed all the ports that we docked on. Some of the ports are walking distance to the town or a free shuttle bus that will take you to downtown are available.

SOLID ALASKA CHOICE by johnfriedel

Amsterdam is the perfect ship to visit Alaska. The ship's size allows it to dock at smaller ports and the 14 day itinerary was super. The captain's political comments should be kept to himself-not appropriate!

Alaska is Worth the Trip by ret07jin

Verified Review

This was our first Alska cruise and the trip was worth it. We chose it for the most places to visit in one trip at a reasonable price. Holland America Line was very good in taking care of us. The food was terrific, entertainment was PG rated, and the staff were courteous & professional. The only thing I would be careful is what ever you buy double check their packing because it may not survive the return trip. If seeing Denali is a must, consider a land trip, because we booked a flight from Anchorage and it was weathered out. We would consider going up there again with HAL but in late summer to see different variety of wildlife.
