Amsterdam cruise to Alaska

Sail Date: September 05, 2008

Reviewed: 8 years ago

Traveled As: Singles/Friends

Room Type: Oceanview

I think the Amsterdam is outdated and needs to be retired.

Pros: The Joel Mason show

Cons: The floor plan of our stateroom

Recommends Amsterdam? No.

Ship Quality
The ship was kept very clean by a hard working crew.
Food and Dining
The food in the main dining room was beautifully presented but not always the best of quality. The service was excellent - our wait staff was terrific.
Entertainment
The variety shows were average but the Joel Mason show and the Barnaby show were terrific. Some of the scheduling was too tight - hard to get to the show if dinner ran late which it did most nights at the late sitting.
Cabin / Stateroom
The size of the stateroom was adequate. The decor -- didn't notice much of the decor. The floor plan was awful - don't know who designed it but it left a lot to be desired. The location of our stateroom was good.
Service and Staff
The ship's staff was excellent - no matter when or where you met a crew member they always smiled and greeted us with a hello.
Sitka, Alaska
Loved Sitka - hired a cab to tour us around. Enjoyed the small town atmosphere.
Don't Miss: n/a
Ketchikan, Alaska
Our excursion was cancelled - lack of interest - so we were very disappointed. Not really impressed with the town -- too many jewelery stores and gift shops all selling the same thing.
Don't Miss: n/a
Victoria, British Columbia
How could Victoria be anything but good. Went to the Gardens for the first time at night -- was beautiful as usual! The town itself with it's hanging baskets of flowers is always a beautiful sight to see.
Juneau, Alaska
Juneau was cold, windy and rainy - but we had a fun time anyway. Didn't go beyond the main street so have not comment on must see/don't miss sites.
Don't Miss: n/a
