Review summary

Allure of the Seas was far too big, too loud, too commercial for me. If I ever do another cruise, it will be a repositioning cruise - ten days at sea watching the ocean slide by, with nary a port of call. Most importantly, no genuine interaction with the locals. We'll fly into Roatan or Nassau, thank you very much. No Cancun, Cozumel, Costa Maya for sure.

Table service was exceptional!

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
No quiet places aboard, a 2Hertz vibration with beats the entire time underway.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Good bed, clean spaces.

Ship tip

If you love Las Vegas resorts, you'll love this. I learned that I didn't.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida Did not visit port

Embarkation

Nassau, Bahamas

2 out of 5
A great place to visit when you're not on a cruise ship. Miserable as a port of call. Snorkeling was good, but RCCL excursions massively overpriced.

Cozumel, Mexico

1 out of 5
Awful as a port of call. Diving was good and not excessively expensive.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

More authentic than the Mexican ports. I will fly in and stay a while. "Best Of" excursion was great, and reasonably priced.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Nothing to do except the port. All excursions were ridiculously priced.

Disembarkation

We used express. Highly recommended.

At least you have it four stars even though you personally did not like this type of cruise.

I have been on 6 cruises, all RCCL. I researched all the ships and the islands before going. Went on the Oasis and the Allure, yes they are big ships with alot of people, but there are alot of activities on these ships. We found quiet areas on 4th deck and people watched on the promanade which is relaxing too. My husband and I thought they were beautiful ships but for us, they were too big. We like a more relaxed atmosphere with less people, so the Freedom class suits us fine. This year, we are going on the Navigator which is smaller then the Freedom...so Im looking forward to seeing a new ship with new islands to explore. Got my days all mapped out for each island and what I want to see....the important thing to remember is the cruiseline isnt going to make your trip...you have to plan ahead, explore the ship, and make the most of everything, if you didnt have a good time, its not their fault.

And this is the Allure’s fault because...? It probably would have helped to do your research first, and then you would have seen that the Allure is a mega ship with thousands of people on board, both crew and guest. I love the Oasis class ships, Allure included. She’s a good ship. But it just sounds like cruising is not for you. Maybe it’d be better if you looked into an all-inclusive resort, where the only interaction with the locals would be going to and from the airport, and the ones who work at the resort.
