Allure of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: March 19, 2017

Ship: Allure of the Seas

Cabin type: Balcony

Cabin number: 10574

Review summary

Our kids loved it and the entertainment was good.  You HAVE to upgrade to the specialty restaurants, as the dining room is inedible (worse than hospital food).

The gym is amazing and there is a fabulous juice bar, making fresh squeezed juices and smoothies, which are included in the drink package!

We prefer excellent customer service and less people, so we will NOT be cruising with RC, again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The specialty restaurants were good and the service there was excellent (especially from the waiter and Chef @ 150 Central Park, who treated me like a queen on my birthday). The dining room was inedible! We literally walked out. I've had better food in the hospital. Was SO happy to have the juice bar in the spa! This is a PLUS PLUS!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
A ton to do for our kids but good luck finding a lounge chair by the pool on "at sea" days!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Have to say the shows were excellent!

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Our cabin attendant was nice and there were a few happy faces among the crew. but, overall, staff look miserable and were not friendly or helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was pretty clean for over 6000 passengers onboard.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Standard...nothing special.

Ship tip

If you have kids and want to keep them entertained, then this is the ship for you (think amusement park at sea). However, it was just WAY TOO BIG and WAY TOO MANY people for our taste. The constant "upselling" got old, too.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

Don't need to go here ever again....this is a waste. A stop in Grand Cayman would have been better.

Falmouth, Jamaica

Cozumel, Mexico

Hard to believe that all the food was inedible i will say this that the food is not as good as it used to be but it is not that bad all cruise lines food has gone down that is probably so they don't have to raise the prices up

Then again, I remember what the tough times were like and appreciate being able to treat myself once in a while now and then. Not growing up spoiled has definitely made me easier to please then some I guess

The only problem we had in the MDR was eating too much!

Oh good grief! There is included food all over the ship! I loved the main dining room. For our large group, it's a chance to connect and relax. I never went hungry, and I truly enjoyed my meals. Next time, if there is one, take a galley tour. It changes one's perspective.

What cruise line are you going to go with that has "less people"? wtf

calakerfan00    7 years ago

So with all the free food buffets that are scattered throughout the ship, you found them all inedible.

So you sailed on one of their biggest ships, thought it was too crowded, and wrote off the whole line?

We went on Allure last fall and found the MDR food very good and well presented . Never once did we feel closed in or to many passengers we will remain Loyal to Royal!

that's a shame you feel that way. I was just on this ship as well and found all the food in the MDR to be excellent. I never paid the extra to eat at a specially restaurant.

Thanks for the thoughtful - detailed review. Embarkation/disembarkation can be a rough experience if badly handled. Most of my poor experiences while cruising have been the result of "something happening" and then inadequate "Plan Bs."

My review of Oasis food was similar. The MDR steak I had, as well as others who ordered steak at our table, wasn't any recognizable as red meat. In a far distant future when food is created from a machine or from a pill In a bad sci-Fi movie the "steak" will resemble the thing that was served to me on Oasis. Inedible. That didn't stop me from booking Allure, but I'll avoid MDR entirely this time around. To. E fair the chicken was better in the MDR on Oasis but we all know everything tastes like chicken, so...

Seriously, the main dining room meals are usually good. What was so inedible?
