As our first cruise with the Royal Caribbean on the Adventure of the Seas we were very impressed with the service delivered by all the staff we encountered. At first the room appeared to be small, however, it turned out to be more than enough for the two of us. However there was not enough space to unpack or store to big suitcases. The interior seemd a bit dated, beech and turqoise doors, odd pattern curtains and bed day covers. Clean but a little tired. We were very happy with the stateroom attendant though who was always very approachable and eager to help. The size of our balcony was very good indeed to enable us to spend almost all day watching the world go by on our first day at sea since the pool area was a little too crowded and too noisy, I am referring to the music, not the people, for our liking. Plus the unclean toilets around the pool area were not encouraging at all. The size of the ship made it possible to have long walks around the various decks. We thoroughly enjoyed the shows put on by the Royal Caribbean dancers, being musical/theater lovers we appreciated the professionalism of the artists a lot. The ice show in particular was very enchanting as well as entertaining.
The muster drill held on our first night unfortunately lacked a little reality since we were told we couldn't use any emergency exits as we would have done in a real emergency, since luggage was blocking the way. Not all the luggage had been delivered to rooms yet. Otherwise the staff seemed to know what they were supposed to be doing. We took full advantage of the photographers on board however we were not very happy we were not allowed to suggest poses ourselves and thus did not purchase as many photographs as intended.
An upsetting situation during our cruise was our friends' confinemt to their cabin due to a wrong diagnosis, since our friend suffers from a lactose intolerance and had forgotten to take medication with her. As she tried to get some medication from the doctor he did not read her medical notes at all and simply confined her and her husband to their cabin on the grounds of one upset stomach. This ruined 48 hours since there was absolutely nothing wrong with her. We travelled in a group of eight, friends and family, who all tried to make sense out of the situation by speaking to the manager and other members of staff. I have no doubt you will receive a formal complaint about this matter shortly.
They were finally escorted off the boat and we tried to make up for a lost day.
Pros: the choice of food in the dining room, the excellent staff in the dining room, the helpful stateroom attendant, the size of our balcony, roomservice, the shows, the nice bars and strolling on the various decks at any time of the day,
Cons: having to leave, the crowded pool area, the unclean toilets around the pool area, having to wait so long to try the wonderful food during the midnight buffet, not that many shops: a few more upmarket clothes shop may be of interest.
