Carnival Magic

August 2015 - Carnival Magic to Caribbean - Western

Magic on the Magic!

This was the second cruise for me, there were still many firsts.  It was my first time to visit Galveston, Texas.  I was in love.  Such a mix of flavors there.  Plenty of typical touristy attractions, other attractions within a short driving distance, and it is a port close enough for us to drive to. The Magic was  . . . majestic. Happy Cliche, I know.  However, that's how I felt.  The staff on the Magic were just as amazing as those on the Liberty 2 years prior.  I even ran into a few I had known from before.  There was a bit of bumbling in the main dining room, though the going rumor was new management.  After a couple of nights where it felt like we were struggling to get our meals, we opted to eat pizza.  Cozumel came with an excursion to the nature reserve where we were shown sea turtle nesting sites, a wonderful lighthouse, and an amazing beach.  The guide was very personable and even helped give us tips on taking wonderful photos.

Belize was fun, but limited as our excursion was cancelled due to low water levels in the rivers and caves.  However, we did have a blast shopping in the tourist area and hanging out with a local celebrity at the Tender Bar & Grill.

Isla Roatan, Honduras was nothing but pure heaven.  Sunny weather, warm ocean water, floatation device that holds the bucket-o-beer and has a shade umbrella, plus wi-fi access!!! So I could chill on the ocean and stay FB connected at the same time.  Really, best part was being able to FaceTime with friends and family from the beach and share (make them jealous) my amazing view.  Yeah, I got sunburned pretty bad in Cozumel.  You can tell in some of the pics. Sad

Sea days were great, though I did have more of an issue with motion sickness this time despite my self-medication.  We had an amazing time and met wonderful people!

My best friend. Words are not enough.

Our waiter. Happy

Our table-mates!

Experienced the wonder of their bar-skills and amazing customer service!

Met these crazy folks!

Overall, it was a great trip.  The hiccup with our excursion didn't dampen the wonder of  the entire cruise.  The issues in the main dining room just encouraged us to branch out and see more of the ship. There was definitely Magic to be experienced.Big Smile

Carnival Liberty

October 2013 - Carnival Liberty to Caribbean - Eastern

What an Amazing Trip!

This was my first ever cruise.  I was unsure of what to expect.  It was a trip of many first for me: first time out of the country, first time to Miami, first major trip without my parents, first time to even see the ocean, etc.  My previous adult travel experience can be summed up by saying: Vegas.  If you've been, you know what I'm subtly implying with just that one word.  This trip was very different.  From my first steps onto the beach in Miami, to stepping into the ship and being awestruck by the beauty and elegance in the furnishings and decorations, to seeing so many people from such a variety of places.  The views from our balcony room were breathtaking.  Meals were scrumptious- especially that chocolate melting cake!!  Half Moon Cay was gorgeous and peaceful.  The people in St. Thomas made me feel like a princess!  San Juan brought an experience in the culture and local foods.  Grand Turk was simply stunning! Swimming in the ocean brought the first-time experience of having fish flitting between my feet.  The colors! It was a Halloween cruise, so the costume party and contest was so much fun.  It is always amazing to see just how creative people can get.  The bar staff were all so attentive, the room stewards were detail oriented, the wait staff informative and helpful, and every other employee was as friendly as if they had known us forever.  The only disappointment on this cruise was that we had to return home.

sharielaine's Tips

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - Here you are the Princess. Shop. Go to the beach. Venture into the little flea-market style shopping area close to where the buses drop you off and pick you up to go back to port. Look for the little bar down an alley with a view of the ocean. Look for the little bar in another alley, but no outlet on the other end. They were quiet places that the locals frequent. Good atmosphere, great conversation, and interesting people.
Grand Turk Island - Don't go to Margaritaville unless you need to check it off your list. When you get off the ship, go left and pass all of the "tourist" stuff. Look for a little shack on the beach, literally- a shack. It's not large. Just big enough for a little counter, one stool, and a boom box. They sell cheap local beer. Best drinks all day long. There's nothing I love more than a good view of the ocean with cheap beer. :)
