Carnival Miracle

September 2017 - Carnival Miracle to Alaska

Majestic Alaska

All in all we loved this Alaskan cruise and have vowed to go again, the scenery is unmatched particularly the Glacier Bay part the cruise. We were blessed with great weather, we did have some cooler temps and some drizzle but we came prepared in layers so not a problem for us.

Carnival Pride

February 2017 - Carnival Pride to Caribbean

Great Cruise

We have sailed on The Carnival Pride many times and have always enjoyed a great experience.  We coupled this 14 days cruise with a 7 day Tampa to Tampa roundtrip the week before so we actually had 21 wonderful days in the Caribbean.  The Carnival Pride is one of the companies Spirit class ships, which means a capacity of around 2100-2300 guest.  Because of the time of the year there were only a few kids on board, so it was relatively quiet.    We throughly loved the Panama Canal part of the cruise, and of course Aruba, St Maarten and Bonaire, Limon Costa Rica was a huge disappointment, it is a commercial port city and Carnival Excursions tried to enhance any description of their trips but you can't make silk purse out of pig skin to put it bluntly.  We did the "rain Forest Adventure"-very lackluster -only exotic thing we saw were the spiders and the caged snakes.

All in all the food this time on the Pride was excellent the entertainment and "daily fun activities"  were old and stale.  Perhaps we have been with Carnival too long but nothing new in this area for us.  Having said that we loved meeting new people, spent many relaxing days in the sunshine on the decks and in the adult Serenity area pool.  Be aware in spite of warnings that it will not be allowed, other cruisers start as early as 5:30 AM staking out spots in the prime areas hours before they will actually be occupied, some stake out as many as 4 at a time just so they can move to a new location as the sun change.

We love to cruise, Carnival offers good value for the $ and they have some great destinations, we love that the ships are well maintained and spotless, we get out of every cruise everything that we want, so at that basis I am very pleased.

Norwegian Dawn

July 2016 - Norwegian Dawn to Bermuda

the good and the bad for us at least

the food and entertainment on this cruise was excellent, as well as the courtesy of the staff and waiters and other servers.  I am only giving the cruise 3 stars because the few things we did not care for are actually deal breakers for us and we probably will not sail Norwegian again unless we get a fabulous price.

The Dawn is a smaller ship with about 2500 passengers, however there is only 1 pool located forward on the ship with Stadium seating for multi levels surrounding it.  On hot days, which everyone was, the entire ship it seemed was concentrated in this one area.  Too many people in one place, the pool was extremely overcrowded and with kids jumping and splashing around as kids will do, it was not the place to be.  In addition due to the number of people in the pool at any given time it was not clean, hair and paper and food were always present.  Due to the numbers it did not appear to be a safe environment.

the other issue was our balcony stateroom bathroom.  It had separate stalls for the shower and the toilet, Husband is tall and large frame, he had little or no room in the toilet area and for him this was a huge issue.

We enjoy cruising and have done so many times and will do so again, however we probably will not consider Norweigian again due to these issues, they do not appear to be something that can be corrected.  Our other cruise line preference offers similar itineraries at similar pricing and the two things mentioned above are fine on those ships so that is probably where we will look again.

We chose this trip for the destination and to give Norwegian a try, food, service, and entertainment were great and compared well with other cruises we have been on but the things we perceived as the negatives will remain in our memories and will more than likely give us pause before we consider a Norweigian again.

Carnival Miracle

September 2014 - Carnival Miracle to Hawaii

Hawaii -just an ok cruise

We sailed on the Carnival Miracle for a 16 days trip to Hawaii.  We were five days at sea both coming and going and 5 days on 5 different islands in the islands. The Carnival Miracle is in the Spirit Class of Carnivals ships, meaning it is one of the smaller carriers, about 2100 passengers and 900 crew.  This is a the type we prefer, never seems crowded, and because of the time of the year, there were only a few school age children on board,in fact it was a 40+ age group Food was average and at the end of the trip seemed boring and mundane.  Entertainment during the trip out  to the islands was lackluster, the second week we had three nights of great performers but not much the last 2 nights.  Comedy acts were very poor, not funny except for Jerome.  Rest of the day time entertainment was  repetitive, bingo and trivia gets tiresome after a while.  Towards the end of the cruise, a full length film was shown and the theater was crowded, more of this is needed on such a long cruise.Ship was exceedingly clean and the crew went out of their way to be courteous, friendly and helpful,  Carnival offered a variety of shore excursions for every port, but were very expensive. Except for Honolulu the docking cruise ports were actually freight terminals, not convenient for any passenger to just walk around.  I will say there were a variety of vendors providing alternate shore excursions meeting every stop so if you are not inclined to book with Carnival, alternate reliable trips are available on shore.

We were satisfied overall with this cruise, although Hawaii is a little over rated as a destination, it is very expensive and while the scenery is lovely there are many places in the Caribbean equally as lovely, as well as the area we live in on the east coast.  For us it was all about the opportunity to cruise and relax and just to be away from daily routine. as always it great to be home.

scotiagirl's Tips

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia - We have been to Vancouver so we knew we would love it we went off on our own in beautiful sunshine. This is truly one of my most favorite places to visit. The problem here was that our arrival was put off from 8 AM until 11 Am. We did arrive at 11 however the ship was not cleared until after 12PM Some guest had booked non Carnival excursions and lost money due to the late arrival. No sympathy from Carnival
Ketchikan, Alaska - We booked a wildlife, eagles and totems through the ships is gave us plenty of eagles to see but the rest of trip was lackluster, although the operators, were friendly and curteous, boat was warm.
Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska - We did not book and excursion in Hoonah but leisurely walked around and found plenty in the port area to see, The history of Hoonah is interesting and the facilities around the docking area are great. We were blessed with pleasant weather that day.
Juneau, Alaska - It poured to start the day but not matter we had a fantastic whale watch booked through the ship and got to see Orca's in addition to humpbacks
Sitka, Alaska - great little city, which we toured before our excursion which was billed as an otter and wildlife viewing trip. We did indeed see otters and a few eagles but the best part were the humpbacks that put on quite the show for us including the young calf that breached every few minutes for almost 1/2 hours. Loved this part of the ship
Carnival Miracle Carnival Miracle - We love the Spirit class ships, my only tip would be -exercise a degree of patience when debarking the ship. As many times as Carnival has debarked passengers, they have yet to get it right.
Skagway, Alaska - A little bit rainy to start the day. We rode the White Pass Railroad to the summit, this was 2nd time for us but we enjoyed the breathtaking views again. Being that it was a Sunday many shops were closed for shoping
Baltimore, Maryland - getting on and off the ship was great especially now that we are platinum
Roseau, Dominica - Not such a great stop, it was a sunday and the docking port was literally a freight port area, the island is very dirty and not much going on to walk to, I understand that an excursion to the rainforest part of the island was a better way to visit this island
Basseterre, St. Kitts - this was also not a great stop, island is not very clean and little to attract attention. tours only brought us to places to buy more time worn souveniers
San Juan, Puerto Rico - we docked in Old San Juan, if you have never been to the city right at the port you can hop on and off a free trolley that will take you throughout the Old City area including to the fort.
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii - this is a tender port, which tends to bog down early on. Not much to see and do at this stop, although it is possible to just walk around here as versus the other stops.
Honolulu, Oahu - we enjoyed a trip around the island with an awesome guide, saw many sites and the visit to Pearl Harbor and to the Arizona memorial was a very moving experience
Nawiliwili, Kauai - ship docks at a freight terminal so have something in place to go to, we visit Weamea canyon, a breathtaking sight.
Hilo, Hawaii - another freight terminal stop, but many vendors to great the ship for excursion options. seeing an active volcano was a highlight
Kahului, Maui - another freight terminal port, we chose the trip to a beach resort, we were lucky it was a picture perfect weather day.
Carnival Miracle Carnival Miracle - this ship has wonderful adult serenity area, which also includes an adult only pool. However spots fill up quickly especially on a nice day but all in all a lovely place to spend the day
