Star Princess

October 2014 - Star Princess to Mexico

A rare opportunity to cruise the Sea of Cortez

My husband and I selected this cruise because of the itinerary and the opportunity to have six relaxing days at sea. The Star Princess and her crew did not disappoint. For those of us still in the working world, there is nothing better than enjoying ocean breezes, sunrises and sunsets and myriad options to engage or disengage during sea days. And, once we rounded the Baja peninsula our adventures began. We are huge fans of visiting World Heritage Sites and this cruise offers several to choose from in Cabo San Lucas, La Paz and Loreto. The shore excursions were excellent and I heard no complaints from other passengers on the ship. The phrase I kept hearing was how much this cruise exceeded passengers' expectations. The Baja Peninsula is drop-dead gorgeous and the water temperature of 80 degrees is perfect in October for those of us who went snorkeling at every opportunity.

The crew was young and vibrant and there was more to do do than we had time for. My only suggestion would be to opt for the "any time" dining. We selected the late seating and found it conflicted with many activities we wanted to participate in on the ship. Go and enjoy. We will definitely be taking this same cruise again.

sandraar's Tips

Loreto, Mexico - My favorite port! Old time small town Mexico with the kindest and friendliest people. No pushy street vendors and several places to sit down and sip a drink. The shore excursion to snorkel at Coronado Island was spectacular. A nearby coral reef provided homes for eels, trumpetfish, needlenose fish and so much more, plus there is an amazing nature trail to allow you great vantage points of the bay. r
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - Got to visit the Boca de Sierra World Heritage Site to Zip Line, Rappell, rock climb, strap on to a commando bridge throughout spectacular scenery of ravines, clear mountain streams and canyons.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Pushy street vendors is a real turnoff for me. This is our third visit to this port so we did not take a shore excursion--next time we will book one rather than walk the town.
La Paz, Mexico - Snorkeling at Gaviota Island and Balandra Bay and with Sea Lion pups and their moms. Fantastic!! Next time we will participate in the whale shark encounter.
Star Princess Star Princess - Order room service breakfast on those mornings when you have an early shore excursion. The international cafe is our favorite for lunch--light, healthy food choices. The sun deck adjacent to the serenity spa is the perfect quiet place to read your favorite novel and be away from the crowds.
