I think you did the right thing. We don't mind tipping at all and always tip when we are out but an extra 15% every time we bought a drink was a bit naughty. Ohh happy new year by the way πŸ‘πŸ˜†

The 15% was on drinks bit of a rip off I reckon .We always have the gratuities removed from our bill on boarding as we like to do our own tipping . I don't think automatically putting them on the bill is fair as the idea is go share between all areas but we don't use all areas .We always tip our table waiters and our cabin steward well but that's all .

Our cabin attendant was brilliant, very professional with nothing too much trouble. We gave him a nice €100 extra tip πŸ‘

I think ours was 235, we also found the buffet a really good alternative. But we weren't too keen on paying an extra 15% service charge on drinks on top of the gratuities we had pre paid.

Despite our preference towards Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, P&O we could have no issues with the service, we lovrd breakfast in bed!πŸ‘

It was lovely to experience the afternoon tea white gloved service. The ambience on board was nice and a taste of how cruising was yesteryear.

Well there certainly were plenty of those but I'm sure that the children had a magical time .We just chilled out and did our own thing .Any regimentation passed us by .We had a laugh at the officers charades though .πŸ˜πŸ˜ƒ

We thought the service and food was the best we have experienced on any cruise we've been onπŸ‘ ... however, we found it a bit too regimented and suited to a more senior cruiser.

Great, thanks for taking the time to give me an insight. We are travelling as a couple. Do Cunard enforce the 'Jacket Required' for INFORMAL nights?

oldcruisers
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

oldcruisers   Nov 15, 2016 - 6:53 am

Where do I start ? The layout of the ships are better for getting around we think .As regards formality I don't find any difference than with P.O . In fact if you want to dodge any formal functions no problem really .there are plenty of options . We really love the semi formal afternoon tea.which they don't really do on other lines .I'm Sure that you will have a wonderful time .Are you with a party or just a couple like us ?

Could you give me some highlights of cruising with Cunard?

redlester
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

redlester   Nov 15, 2016 - 6:40 am

We have cruised with P&O, Royal Caribbean & Celebrity. This will ne our 9th cruise but 1st with Cunard. A little concerned Cunard will be VERY formal and less relaxed?

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

oldcruisers   Nov 15, 2016 - 6:40 am

Actually that should say BON voyage .

oldcruisers
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

oldcruisers   Nov 15, 2016 - 6:37 am

Many times .We have been with several other lines but find , in our opinion, Cunard is the best by far . Have you cruised before ? If not you will be starting at the top as we did .Our first was on QE 2 .We always come back to Cunard .Bob Voyage ship mate .
