You're guaranteed boarding time is printed on your e-docs, but I've heard sometimes they board as early as 11am.

Hey I'm new to Cruises and this may be a stupid question but doesn't anyone know when the earliest you can board the cruise ship on departure day? Thanks! L

If you have already been on the MSC DIVINIA, regarding the dining options; are there any low-fat, non-dairy choices to eat already available on the buffet or do you specifically have to ask for these foods specially made?

Hey fellow shipmates! What is everyone doing for excursions? Here’s some things we have planned for our port days. Hopefully it will inspire others who aren't quite sure what to see and do while in port.

----About Us----

Since we are first time cruisers, I have done a ton of research and combed through this, and many other forums looking for excursion recommendations. One of my biggest frustrations with many recommendations has always been not knowing anything about the cruisers. Since different age groups and family sizes can affect your excursion choices, I feel it is important to give an introduction to my family. That way, you can make a better determination if these may be right for you.

We are in our early 40's with 2 boys (12 and 5 years old). We aren't overly active, but we enjoy getting outdoors as much as possible (when the Michigan weather permits) to go camping, biking, and an occasional walk around the neighborhood. The grown-ups love good food, but since the kids are typical picky eaters, I (sadly) didn't base our excursions on dining. Instead, I tried to make things somewhat kid-friendly. Since I'm a bit of a risk taker with an adventurous spirit, I decided to not book any of the excursions through MSC. No offense, I just don't care for large, crowded tours. And yes, I know the boat will leave without me if I'm late returning to port, but my motto has always been, "I'll chance it!"

----Port 1 - Nassau, Bahamas----

This is where my wife and I went for our honeymoon, so it will be interesting to go back and reminisce. I originally wanted to make this just a relaxing beach day and was even considering bypassing the typical Junkanoo and Cable beaches in favor of the lesser-known Love beach. Then my wife suggested I consider a "once in a lifetime" experience for the kids.Although hesitant at first, I buckled and opened my wallet for a Sea Lion encounter at Blue Lagoon Island. I justified this because, let’s face it, sea lions way cuter than dolphins! I found the best price is to just sign up directly through their website. To get there from port, you first have to get to the Paradise Island Marina, and from there, a ferry takes you to Blue Lagoon Island (free with encounter purchase). I’m still not sure if we're going to take a land taxi or water taxi to the marina, but suggestions would be appreciated. Since we are in port for such a short time, that's probably about all we'll have time for. In fact, this is the most likely day you'll see us running for the ship as it leaves without us!

Here’s the website to book an encounter:
http://www.dolphinencounters.com/

---Port 2 - San Juan, Puerto Rico---

OK, this is our most adventurous trip. We're not going with any type of tour guide on this one. We're just renting a car and going to El Yunque National Rainforest. Provided I can get out of Old San Juan (I hear traffic is a mess), and Google maps is working (a Verizon rep informed me both data and cell service work and is billed the same as stateside), this looks like a pretty easy self-guided tour. In addition to the normal sights (La Mina Falls,La Coca Falls, etc.) I'm really excited to check out the somewhat lesser known Juan Diego Falls.

After some fun in the rainforest, we may stop by Luquillo Beach and grab some Puerto Rican food at the Luquillo kiosks while the kids jump around in the surf. Finally, after dropping the car off near the port, I hope to have time to hit Barrachina for their famous Pina Colada (to see if it's any better than what I make)!

I found the following website invaluable for this research:
http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/

--Port 3 - Phillipsburg, St. Maarten--

What would a Caribbean cruise be without some snorkeling? As recommended by countless cruisers in these forums, I have decided to trust Captain Alan's Boat Charters to take us to all the snorkeling hot spots, followed by some time on the secluded Pinel Island. With only 2 tiki-bar style restaurants, this serene island seems amazing and Captain Alan's seems to provide the more intimate, personal service we're looking for! Finally, if there's time, I just gotta check out the big planes landing at Maho beach!

Here’s the (quaintly outdated) website for Captain Alan's:
http://www.captainalan.com/

Looking forward to experiencing our first cruise with all of you. Feel free to ask any questions or provide any tips, but remember I'm just winging this, so any info I have is merely second-hand. Also, let’s hear what you’re doing!

This is actually my second time cruising with MSC. I was a little scared the first time I went on since I hadn't heard of it before, but I LOVED IT! I had a great time on MSC. Can't wait to go again in April!

Anyone else getting as excited as we are? This is our first cruise, so I'm doing a bunch of research. I found this nice playlist of another couple who went on the same cruise recently and it really helped answer many of my questions. Hope it helps others! WARNING: Many spoilers, so don't watch if you want to be surprised.
