Yeah that was as rough as I'd ever been on. I usually avoided the windjammer but the md and specialty restaurants were amazing. Fortunately nobody got sick but definitely rough seas. Already booked again for June

The good: Saturday Night Fever is still a good show. Ice show also good but seen the production before. Love the P deck parades. Seemless transition to shore time, even with the tender. Word of advice: don't get sick and cruise from a warmer embarkation port (San Juan/Miami).
Bring a good book. After a comparison with Celebrity Summit, RCI drops down to #2.

Now the ugly: second time on same ship, Promenade deck is not for me. Too crowded with ho-kee "sales". Coffee shop food selection were uninspired. Didn't spend extra for B&J's or the diner upstairs for that matter. Stairs rising from deck 4=second hand smoke on P deck the entire cruise. RC: learn from Celebrity, keep the smokers outside where they belong!

Anybody else lose their dinner? Happened to me Tuesday night. Otherwise I was fine rest of trip but did contract a cold/fever Wednesday nite-Saturday morning. Stayed in cabin and slept all day Friday.....no weight gain!
Start to finish, crew was great.

Jan 8-15th. Not the best or worst cruise I have been on. I didn't care for the food variety at Windjammer's lunch setup. MD room dinners were excellent. Previously on L'S in October '15. None of the main shows had changed. Thought they should have had another production show or juggler/magician instead of 3 comics. Missed the aerialists 2nd show; safety first. Cold weather and rough seas :(

Question: Ive read that most cruises dont mind you buying water and bringing a pack of your own on the ship...i can drink half a pack a day easily... Has anyone had any issues on Liberty bringing your own?

While on a Celebrity cruise this past November, the ports of Martinique and Dominica were socked in a long pattern of recurring rain. The morning snorkel trips were cancelled but the afternoon excursions went on without a hitch. If doing a land tour, carry a rain jacket just to be safe.

It's tough to say. I was on a NCL cruise in Belize. The skies opened up (In port) while we were waiting for stragglers to show up late. We became pissed when after an hour of waiting they still hadn't shown. It was a river/ruins excursion that eventually took place.....we cancelled. The showers were relatively brief.

alexfryar
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

alexfryar   Dec 29, 2016 - 3:01 am

Right across from the terminals ur best option. Parking 70. Some hotels in the area will let u park for "free" but it's the difference between a 60-70 room plus 70 for parking or 130-140 for a room with inclusive parking. I usually get a hotel in a suburb like Alvin then leave early in the morning. Beat a lot of traffic from people getting on/off the ship.

Yes, this has been the biggest headache for us as well. There are 9 in our party and it would have been an astronomical fee to get all of us from Hobby to Galveston. Hopefully someone reliable getting good back to Hobby on our return home! 😜

Flying into Bush airport (I know too far but Royal air2cruise put me there). Transportation is awful and expensive. What is everyone doing if they are flying into Bush. Will to share a shuttle? Coming in Sat and have a 1:00 flight Sunday.

astmj
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

astmj   Dec 06, 2016 - 9:46 am

No Uber in Galveston they have taxis that run $15/person to port. I am now struggling with all the transportation. This isn't a good port for shuttles and such. I just read something about the port charging a fee to shuttles which gets passed to riders.

Go to the main dining area. They will make your breakfast to order. However you like it. Breakfast in bed really is crappy and they take forever to bring it. Your best to go to the main dining hall for the freshest and best breakfasts.

pilot172
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

pilot172   Dec 06, 2016 - 9:41 am

My time dining is awesome. Because you can change the times according to the show times on the cruise. Just go up to the MDR. And tell them every day at 8:30. Then if you want to change it. On any day. You can change it even an hour till. Just tell them today we will eat at 9. They will say ok. And they always try to use same waiters. Also you won't be seated with strangers .

We are using the Royal Caribbean shuttle as we have never been there and feel better knowing the Royal shuttle will get us to the ship in time and can carry all of us plus our luggage. I know people also use private shuttle services, but we had a hard time finding one that could carry all our luggage as well as us. We found the cost was close to the same either way.

My husband and I did my time dining on our last cruise. We called every day to make a reservation. We usually ate at 630 or 7. If you especially like a waiter you can ask to be seated in their section. We always sat at a 2 top table alone. It was nice to decide from day to day, usually based around what we were planning to do that day. You can walk in and wait if you forget to reserve.

Glad it works. Didn't want to cause a debate but so many groups I am in, everyone is right and I see answers that are opposite each other. Some questions are safer to trust the source. As I did ask before and got different answers. I like the passport just easier if anything were to happen. :-)

astmj

alexfryar
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

alexfryar   Nov 02, 2016 - 4:11 pm

As long as you are a US resident with a state ID (drivers license) and a certificate of naturalization (birth certificate) you can travel from and back to the same US port without a passport. I would strongly recommend having one of course for the "just in case" scenarios, but also it makes the boarding and disembarkation process go a lot easier.

jeffreybob
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

jeffreybob   Nov 01, 2016 - 3:21 pm

I know this has been asked before but, I can't remember the answer. Is a Passport required for going on a cruise if you're only staying within the cruise loop?

astmj

If you go right to the MDR when you board you can pick your times for the week. You then don't have to wait in line. If you pick the same time you may even get the same server and table (we did). If you have your reservations done you can skip the long long if those trying to make a reset each night.

This will be our first time on Libery but have been on Freedom and room service eggs are not that good by the time you get them. We like going to the Windjammer and getting omelettes made to order or their crepes. We only used room service for the days with early excursions and had to be off the ship in time.

WM7b5xijwhMa7CXEHTBmvNQdr   Oct 30, 2016 - 3:11 pm

We had it one night and did not like it, we requested set dining and as there was room we got it. My time is very busy the first night with people trying to change to set dining so if you want set dining I suggest contacting Royal and getting wait listed. You can suggest the size of table you want as well, whether you want to sit with your family or with others as well.

I did not care for the room service eggs. We would get double orders of pastry and fruit and sides of sausage or bacon for the protein. I also waited for the omelettes at the omelette station in the windjammer. I enjoyed the main dining room on sea days. Was fun to meet new people and gear their stories.

How is the room service food, esp. Breakfast on Liberty of the Seas
I hear the windjammer eggs aren't very good
