Has anyone used a travel card instead of credit card for their cruise? It's so hard to get a replacement card for loaded for travel.

roopavijay03   Dec 04, 2016 - 10:07 pm

Egsomers, At the moment we have just planned Latoka through a private tour. It's 5 hour tour and we can include any activities we like. Works out better because we are a group. Thinking of lagoon snorkelling in Noumea but my son is only 4 and he can't go. So we may look into the South Sea Island tour! Smurfette64, thanks for info! Was that throug Royal Carribian or you booked in Fiji after landing

angrybeaver   Dec 04, 2016 - 5:45 am

Found a link, doesn't include info on juices etc, but has some prices, don't forget to add 18% and convert at $AU

angrybeaver   Dec 04, 2016 - 5:43 am

Have not been on explorer, but, from my investigation, you need the cup for the machine, but the rest of us can just get a beverage at the bar, cannot possibly want to carry that cup around....

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 7:22 pm

Has anyone been on Explorer of the Seas recently - since they changed the drinks pacakages and are now giving all 3 packages the cup. Do you HAVE to use it or can you just walk up to a bar and get a drink in a glass like a normal person

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 5:13 pm

He's thanking already, he loves the cruise!

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 5:12 pm

He'll thank you for it later when he finally gets a job and needs to work up time to qualify for holidays in tge future tho lol

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 5:11 pm

Jack (20) is looking for work, so me booking this has ruined his chance of a foot in the door in the pre Xmas rush...

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 5:03 pm

Daughter and I went cruising by ourselves to Fiji last year - left the boys at home - it was a lovely mother/daughter time. She's a chef so this time of year is impossible for her to take holidays

egsomers   Dec 03, 2016 - 4:41 pm

Thanks angrybeaver. I think we'll have the combined city tour, aquarium and lagoon in noumea and the jewel of Fiji. I'm soo excited we've even started packing already

egsomers   Dec 03, 2016 - 4:26 pm

Thanks @angrybeaver. We feel the same way. If it were around 25, that would be a hoot! So, we'll pay as we go on drinks.

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 4:24 pm

Shame the kids can't come, if you're like me it's always nicer when they're about (until Jack gets cross)...

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 4:22 pm

We worked out the the non alcoholic package was not practical for us, at the current price ($40) the kids would be drinking coffee, red bull mocktails and such for the sake of getting their money's worth. Also the website was very unclear about whether the 18% gratuity was on top of that $40. If they had two coffees, one mocktail and a drink after dinner we're still only up to $25.

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 4:17 pm

Drink prices (coffee/wine, I don't know for beer/spirits/cocktails) were comparable to going out at home, not overly cheap, but not insane. There is tea and filter coffee permanently on offer at the promenade cafe (deck 5), so you don't have to buy (unless espresso or latte etc is your wish).

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:33 am

Hoping not - we land in Sydney at 10am - flying Qantas

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:32 am

Ooh, risky

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:32 am

ROFLMAO been there done that - this time it's just hubby and myself - the kids (22 & 20) have to work lol

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:31 am

We argue too much, and inevitably someone gets cross because they knew the answer and we voted against them (usually Jack)

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:29 am

We will be flying down early Saturday morning - so hoping I don't forget anything

angrybeaver   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:27 am

Wish we could leave it that late!! We're leaving home Friday, staying in the rocks. Am nagging 5 teenagers to pack and my husband isn't in the country until Thursday night....

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:23 am

I haven't started packing at all yet - will probably set some stuff aside each day and finally pack on Saturday

smurfette64   Dec 03, 2016 - 3:22 am

Depends on the subject but we usually attempt them lol

smurfette64   Dec 02, 2016 - 4:55 pm

Yes we do - can't wait to see it lol

angrybeaver   Dec 02, 2016 - 3:44 pm

Who's keen for Trivia??

angrybeaver   Dec 02, 2016 - 3:43 pm

Hi All,
mine are three girls, 2x 17 one 19 and two boys, 18 and 20.
Will find one 17 on pool deck, the other near me, 18 and 19 will float about together, and if you see Mr 20, chilling alone in the Viking at the top of the ship, say "Hello Jack"....

angrybeaver   Dec 02, 2016 - 3:39 pm

Fridge has a lot of minibar items, you can ask your room steward to remove them to free up space.
Do you have a virtual balcony Smurfette?

angrybeaver   Dec 02, 2016 - 3:13 pm

Will need the holiday after the packing ordeal.......

smurfette64   Dec 02, 2016 - 1:55 am

9 days and counting - I bet it's the longest 9 days ever

smurfette64   Dec 02, 2016 - 1:52 am

We've booked the Tchou tchou train in Noumea - Fiji we are just going to figure out once onboard as I've been there before - If you want to do a brilluant all inclusive day in Fiji do tge South Sea Island tour - it is a little pricey but so worth it - we loved it last time

angrybeaver   Dec 01, 2016 - 3:15 pm

Best plan is to ask the awesome kids at guest services once we're on, re corkage discrepancy.

angrybeaver   Dec 01, 2016 - 4:29 am

Sorry eg, haven't tried the zip line, can't advise. In Lautoka we did a deal with a local chap who drove us to the main sights, temple, gardens, mud pools and beach. My husband and the big kids went stand up paddle boarding (ship arranged tour) and thoroughly enjoyed that in Noumea.

angrybeaver   Dec 01, 2016 - 4:14 am

We took the city, beach and aquarium tour in Noumea, January last year, it was very picturesque. Each stop on the city part was 5-10 minutes, most of what we saw was out of the coach window. The tchou-tchou train went to some of the same stops. Lemon Bay (the beach part) was beautiful and there were some touristy shops along that strip.

egsomers   Dec 01, 2016 - 2:08 am

In Noumea, is it better to go on the city tour or swim by the lagoon? Hopefully no jellyfish or something similar. Would like to try the zipline in Fiji. As for Suva, still browsing... Roopavijay03, what are you considering so far?

angrybeaver   Nov 30, 2016 - 11:01 pm

I know, always with the conflicting stories.....

egsomers   Nov 30, 2016 - 10:59 pm

I checked RC website and Faqs indicate that they charge 25usd per bottle when consumed in any public areas. http://www.royalcaribbean.com.au/. Search for corkage.

egsomers   Nov 30, 2016 - 10:05 pm

Awesome! Thanks angrybeaver

angrybeaver   Nov 30, 2016 - 9:41 pm

And I recall seeing somewhere recently that RC are no longer charging corkage, so you can bring your wine to the restaurant or dining room to consume.

Found it....

See you there, with my wine πŸŽ‰

angrybeaver   Nov 30, 2016 - 7:25 am

I'm bringing three girls, 2x 17yo one 19 and two boys, 18 and 20yo.

angrybeaver   Nov 30, 2016 - 7:20 am

Two bottles (750ml) of wine are permitted, per stateroom (must have a cruiser over 18). No other alcohol is permitted. You must bring the wine in your carry on luggage not your checked bags. There is a bottle shop up near the ferry terminal at circular quay.

angrybeaver   Nov 30, 2016 - 7:18 am

The whole family loved the Jewel of Fiji shore tour last time we were in Fiji.

roopavijay03   Nov 30, 2016 - 5:33 am

Has anyone booked shore excursions? Your advice on which one to book and not to book?

kbh990   Nov 28, 2016 - 5:07 pm

Yum hope so

egsomers   Nov 28, 2016 - 4:21 am

Will there be lobster night? 12 da yes to go!

jojo12   Nov 28, 2016 - 2:59 am

And apparently if u do decide to get it, get it before you leave as its in USD once on board

egsomers   Nov 28, 2016 - 2:56 am

Thanks Jojo12. I think we'll gauge as we go and depending on the cost of drinks... 12 days to go!

jojo12   Nov 27, 2016 - 2:32 am

I think it'll depend on how much you drink, and not just alcohol just other drinks too. My family and friends are getting it

davestats   Nov 26, 2016 - 8:23 pm

Must stop being social must only use Google...

smurfette64   Nov 26, 2016 - 8:10 pm

Have you tried google - a quick search of "bottle shop at circular quay" brings up a few hits πŸ˜‰

davestats   Nov 26, 2016 - 5:04 pm

So the question of where the closest place to buy the wine before boarding? Any answer?

emmaf99   Nov 26, 2016 - 11:36 am

Does anyone know what's best in terms of sleeping arrangements , we've been asked how we want the beds made up . We have a junior suite which I'm told has a sofa bed and either two singles or a double . Would it be better to put kids on sofa bed or give them the singles ? Thank you

smurfette64   Nov 26, 2016 - 8:29 am

That's EXACTLY what I said above πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

egsomers   Nov 26, 2016 - 3:12 am

I'm only referring to wines and champagne, nothing stronger. I also asked specifically about this with flight Centre.

egsomers   Nov 26, 2016 - 3:10 am

smurfette64   Nov 26, 2016 - 3:05 am

Read my last comment above - that is directly from RCI πŸ˜†

egsomers   Nov 26, 2016 - 1:20 am

First timer too. Excited

egsomers   Nov 26, 2016 - 1:19 am

I bought some motion sickness pills so far, but haven't really packed. Clove oil for my tooth, pain killers and Imodium just in case. Haven't really packed though. Will leave it till Saturday morning and get the rest that we might need then

egsomers   Nov 26, 2016 - 1:16 am

Has anyone booked their excursion yet? Has anyone tried the zip line one at Lautoka? How great is that heritage lagoon at Noumea or is it better to go on city tour?

egsomers   Nov 26, 2016 - 1:10 am

It's allowed. 2 750 ml bottles of either wine or champagne. I've asked our agent. It's also all over their faqs and brochures. But only upon embarkation. You can only drink it in your room.

kbh990   Nov 26, 2016 - 1:05 am

I thought we could in Australia? Hmm will investigate

smurfette64   Nov 25, 2016 - 9:01 pm

Looking at the drinking policy for RCI - 1. Bringing liquor onboard at embarkation is not allowed. If spirits or beer are found they will be confiscated and destroyed. 2. Bringing wine or champagne aboard - max 2 bottles of 750ml or smaller PER CABIN. Each bottle must retain the original manufacturers seal and exhibit no signs of tampering.

smurfette64   Nov 25, 2016 - 8:32 pm

I thought that was for US departures not Aust ones πŸ€”

lindylou1706   Nov 25, 2016 - 8:31 pm

You are allowed to take a maximum of 2 bottles of 750ml wine per statesroom with your carry on hand luggage.

smurfette64   Nov 25, 2016 - 7:42 pm

As far as I'm aware you aren't allowed to take drinks onboard at all on cruises departing from Aust πŸ€”

joanaust   Nov 25, 2016 - 6:53 pm

25 of us going together party

lindylou1706   Nov 25, 2016 - 5:19 pm

Great question, I was wondering the same thing as I really don't want to have to carry it around Sydney unnecessarily.

egsomers   Nov 25, 2016 - 3:54 pm

Does anyone know where to get some wine near The Rock before boarding? Hoping to bring it on board

egsomers   Nov 25, 2016 - 3:48 pm

Is it practical to get one of the drink packages?

alexbeattie   Nov 24, 2016 - 6:30 pm

I may have spent about half an hour this morning organising what I do have in there! πŸ˜‚ yea I'm similar. My fiancΓ© and I go to Launceston for the night on the Friday and then fly to Sydney on the Saturday

emmaf99   Nov 24, 2016 - 4:51 am

Me too ! But a little longer than a week. It's so hard to know what to pack . We have four days in Sydney before we sail so need to pack for that as well.

alexbeattie   Nov 23, 2016 - 5:52 pm

Yep! I've been putting things in my suitcase that I won't use between now and then for about a week πŸ˜‚

jess2208   Nov 23, 2016 - 3:42 pm

It's my first cruise too

emmaf99   Nov 23, 2016 - 3:41 pm

jojo12   Nov 12, 2016 - 9:04 pm

Hi first time cruiser here.. I have a 14 year old daughter, and we are going with her dance studio so plenty of teens coming.

smurfette64   Nov 12, 2016 - 5:06 pm

OMG 4 weeks to go - 28 days - YIPPEE!!!!

reginel   Nov 04, 2016 - 1:18 am

Yes we are travelling with 2 daughters 14 & 19. They are both a bit nervous they won't know anyone. With their large age gap they have very different interests and may get bored with each other quickly.

reginel   Nov 04, 2016 - 1:14 am

Yes we are travelling with two teenage daughters 14 & 19.

smurfette64   Oct 30, 2016 - 5:32 am

Yeah this site is not always accurate when it comes to iteniary. We've done two cruises this year and both were wrong

marnienfreya   Oct 29, 2016 - 11:55 pm

Has anyone else noticed the itinerary on this site? It differs from the RC site. Has it always?

kbh990   Oct 28, 2016 - 2:24 am

Most definitely!

smurfette64   Oct 27, 2016 - 6:12 pm

kbh990   Oct 25, 2016 - 8:07 pm

Omg me too. It been such a tough year for alot of people be great way to finish year. We are celebrating a few birthday milestones

missw   Oct 25, 2016 - 8:06 pm

So looking forward to it 😊

kbh990   Oct 25, 2016 - 8:04 pm

13yo daughter 16yo son. Yeah definitely worth itπŸ˜€

missw   Oct 25, 2016 - 7:59 pm

My son will only miss a few days of school and we are travelling with a large group for a special occasion so decided it was well worth it. What gender are your kids?

kbh990   Oct 25, 2016 - 7:44 pm

I will be, 13 &16. Our kids finished school by then (Qld) which is why we did december this time, november last cruise for wedding anniversary was too hard for schoolwork

smurfette64   Oct 25, 2016 - 8:39 am

Shouldn't they be at school still then πŸ˜‰

missw   Oct 24, 2016 - 10:22 pm

Just wanted to see if anyone travelling with older children 14 years old 😊

smurfette64   Oct 13, 2016 - 3:51 am

Have found out via a FB group there IS a fridge and also a kettle in the cabins

smurfette64   Oct 07, 2016 - 12:39 am

Has anyone been on Explorer of the Seas before - we are wondering if there is a fridge in the cabins. We have an interior cabin with virtual balcony on deck 9

stephc2526   Oct 03, 2016 - 1:59 am

smurfette64   Sep 07, 2016 - 6:19 am

Oh ok. I though you said 12 Nov. I never got an email about Lifou/Mare only the one ages ago swapping Suva and Latoka around

sandymum23   Sep 07, 2016 - 6:15 am

This is for the Dec cruise. Leaving Dec 11th
I'm glad we are going to another island and not skipping itcaltogether

smurfette64   Sep 07, 2016 - 6:12 am

We had Lifou changed out on a previous cruise because they have a lot of civil unrest there - so they are propably having the same problem again and passenger safety is paramount

alexbeattie   Sep 07, 2016 - 5:27 am

Yea my TA emailed me today about it

sandymum23   Sep 06, 2016 - 11:13 pm

Anyone else get the itinerary change, no longer Lifou but being replaced with Mare?
