Lots of disappointed people, I'm sure, but nobody can control the weather! I heard Carnival was very generous with OBC, discount on the Cheers package, and 50% off a future cruise.

The decision to do another NYC/Canada cruise last Saturday. That was the plan the week before, but they ended up spending a day and a in NYC, then coming home.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Oct 11, 2016 - 10:52 am

I see that the Pride is in NYC. Is it because of Nicole making the water dangerous, or did Matthew cause far too much damage to host any tourists?

We were on her in April, and did not notice any vibrations in MDR. We had an afternoon cabin, and did notice some there, but found it soothing. LOL

kohoshinook   Sep 26, 2016 - 2:40 pm

We noticed the same thing 2 years ago, right before they refurbished it. We were told that would be fixed during the refurbishment. Must be they couldn't fix it for some reason?

Ok, thanks for the info! It's good to know what to expect. It's usually my husband and I traveling alone, as we don't have kids, so we weren't sure about the teenage club rules.

cinomania
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

cinomania   Sep 24, 2016 - 11:13 pm

They are very strict, actually last cruise I was still 17 and had a friend that was 18 , he was not allowed to do activities. There plenty to do still so she won't need to worry! My first cruise not being in teen club as well

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 24, 2016 - 11:11 pm

Cinomania, Desi will just barely be 18, her birthday is in October. Will she be allowed to do activities with her sister in the teen club? I really hope she doesn't get bored on her first ever vacation, let alone first cruise!

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 12:45 pm

That sounds like a perfect plan! We live in Elmira, NY, but we also have a seasonal campsite and fishing charter business in Point Breeze, NY. What city are you from?

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

  Sep 09, 2016 - 12:36 pm

Where in NY you from? We are originally from WNY?

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

  Sep 09, 2016 - 12:36 pm

We are driving in from Ohio. We usually drive to Frederick then spend the night. Drive hour to port next morning and park there. Real easy and convenient, like parking there so we can self carry off and get on the road after.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 12:31 pm

Or the seriously hairy dude! Lol!

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

I think there are 3 now. Your on vacation, try it either way. No one judging unless it's the heavy guy in the speedo.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 12:22 pm

There was only one sad slide at the very back of the boat before the renovation. It really didn't look like any fun to us, but it looks like they've improved it. I'm losing weight in anticipation of the cruise, maybe I'll feel comfortable with myself enough to try the slides this time.

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

  Sep 09, 2016 - 12:13 pm

I did the slides last time but don't remember/didn't use before. They were fun. Good activity on a port day if not venturing out or not all day. Sea days it's busy as you'd expect.

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

  Sep 09, 2016 - 12:11 pm

All that walking is just a drop in the bucket compared to my burrito intake.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 12:10 pm

I saw there is also a new outdoor movie screen, a new pool, and has the slide been upgraded? The pics look different than I remember.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 12:08 pm

Lol! We always walk at least 3 miles everyday, take the stairs instead of the elevators, and visit the gym a few times so we can get away with eating more!

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

  Sep 09, 2016 - 12:06 pm

Best renovation was adding guys burgers and blue iguana burritos. I gain the most on the Pride.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 12:00 pm

Another tip, get to port early to avoid the long lines. They usually start boarding around 11am, and as soon as you're on board you can go to the lido deck for a buffet lunch, music, and the bartenders are walking around with some nice drink specials. Unless you're a real lush, I don't recommend the Cheers package. You'd need to drink 10-12 drinks everyday in order to pay for it, so it's cheaper to just buy your alcohol when you want it.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 11:55 am

We bring 2 credit cards and a fair amount of cash with us. We keep most of it in the safe, and carry what we're willing to spend at each port. We're paranoid about using credit cards in foreign countries/islands because if some scam artist finds a way to steal our account #'s, and they max them out before we disembark the ship, even if it's covered by insurance later on, you can't leave the ship until you find a way to pay. We had an issue on our first cruise to Alaska, we only had a little cash and our debit card, and our bank's computer system was down on the weekend we tried to disembark, so it kept getting denied, and of course nobody was there to answer their phones, so thank God our friends had won big at the casino and lent us the cash to pay our bill. Ever since,we put cash on our sign & sail cards as soon as we board, and add more to it as needed throughout the week so there's no surprises at the end lol!

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 11:46 am

We live 6 hours away, coming from NY state, so preparing for possible bad weather, we are leaving the night before. My sister lives an hour away from port so we're staying at her house. Last time we got a hotel room, they let us park in their secure lot for the week, and they offered a free shuttle to and from the port. That's probably your best option. As far as what to bring, ALL medications you may need, including OTC, because literally a bottle of 12 ibuprofen costs $12 on the ship. Same goes for personal care products, like body wash, shampoo, razors, sanitary napkins, sunscreen, aloe, bandaids, etc. You'll need a couple dressy outfits for the formal dinner nights, bathing suits, a light sweater or sweatshirt for cool evenings, comfortable walking shoes. Very important... your passports and 2 photo copies of them! Keep your original and a copy of your spouse/children's on you at all times. Have your spouse or travel companion carry their original and a copy of yours on them. Keep a second copy of everyone's in the safe in your stateroom. That way you're covered if anybody loses one. Most people also bring a lanyard keychain to attach the sign & sail cards to and wear it around their neck. You can also purchase one on board for about $8.

Contributor Level: Deck Hand

lilpinkwagonz.aol.com   Sep 09, 2016 - 11:28 am

Thank you! Just a few questions! What is the most important things to bring!? Also we are driving to Maryland we live about 5 hours, should we leave early that morning or leave the night before!

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 11:26 am

I'm always nervous until I'm aboard! There's so much to do to prepare, with packing, making sure we have all our documents, trying not to forget anything, and the road trip to the port. But once on board, it's nothing but fun and relaxation! Do you have any questions? I'd be happy to help you in any way!

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 11:03 am

We prepay so that it doesn't get charged to our sign & sail cards, but then the last evening we tip our waiters (you keep the same 3 your entire trip) and our Porter extra cash because, trust me, they earn it!!! We also usually tip our bartenders a little bit each day. The staff gets paid so little for their work, so they rely on the tips to send home to their families.

kohoshinook
Contributor Level: Third Mate

kohoshinook   Sep 09, 2016 - 10:57 am

I usually print 1-2 months in advance and store them in the safe with our passports. Luggage tags are essential, because they take our luggage at the port entrance and deliver them to your stateroom. They do go through the luggage to check for contraband, so be sure all your meds, jewelery, documents, and anything valuable are all in your carry-on. I usually put the tags on just before putting the luggage in the trunk. It's kind of stressful getting prepared for the cruise, but once you board, you feel 10lbs lighter and stress free for the duration!! Enjoy!

the_champlins
Contributor Level: Purser

the_champlins   Aug 22, 2016 - 4:41 am

First, you can. But what is the different between a month early, or on the second day? Also, what is there to adjust? A measly $12/day, divided among a group of workers? These people work their butts off, and deseve much more! We make adjustments too: we give staff additional cash.

kporter75
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

kporter75   Aug 22, 2016 - 2:35 am

I've never prepaid for gratuities, but there have been rare situations where I've needed to adjust gratuities. I'm not sure that can be done if they're prepaid.

kporter75
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

kporter75   Aug 22, 2016 - 2:28 am

Print them whenever you want, as long as you remember to bring them with you. Luggage tags don't need to be in color and you doubt need to attach them before you get to the port.

You can prepay anytime you want. If you don't, they will take it out of your Sign and Sail account on the morning of Day Two. We prepay; one less expense to worry about on vacation!
