Anyway sierragill....tips for you. As stated don't over pack, you will not need everything you think you will. I bring a few clothes pins for hanging up wet clothes (they have a retractable clothesline in the shower) and an over door organizer, such as one of those shoe organizers, I use it as a place to put all of our shampoos, deodorant and stuff so it's all in one place and out of the way (I normally bring my kids though and need the extra storage space). Make sure you pack any OTC meds you think you may need (Tylenol, Tums, etc, seasick meds) because they are pricey on the ship. Bring an extension cord but not a surge protector...they only have one outlet in the room. If you are a moderate to heavy drinker you may want to purchase the Cheers package but be aware that leaving out of Galveston you will not be able to use it till day 2 of the cruise and 3 of the days you are at port then the last day we get off in the a.m so basically you only have 3 full days on the ship....do the math before you purchase and if one person buys it then everybody over 21 in your room has to buy it as well. Drinks run about 10 dollars and up and beer runs between 6 and 10 dollars. For myself...it is not worth the money but for others in my room it would have been worth it if we could have bought it individually. Do take in to account that it covers specialty coffees and shakes as well and those are 4 to 6 dollars each.

Oh..I see now. I don't do things so I can be personally gratified...to know inside I did what was right is all I need. I pray I do change somebody's mind on this. As for me I will continue to pay mine so everybody who has worked for me gets what they deserve...it's what is the right thing to do. I do not need to see the joy on their faces...for my heart is filled with joy just knowing I did right.

I respect your opinion however, my decision stands. Jesus loves you ma'am.

theseasforme
Contributor Level: Third Mate

theseasforme   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:24 am

All I am saying is keep the small pre-paid set as it is so everybody gets a little something...they all worked for you. Then...pay those you do come in contact with extra as you go or on the last day. For a 7 day cruise I am paying a tad over 181 bucks for 2 people...that is peanuts compared to what they do to make me not have to lift a finger and that goes for everybody in front of and behind the scenes. But it's up to you what you do. For myself...I educated myself on where the money went and also talked to the crew on board. I asked those I came in contact with on the elevator or in the hallway. I then made an educated decision to pay the pre-paid gratuity and also pay extra to those I do come in contact with.

tjay93
Contributor Level: Purser

tjay93   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:23 am

Its not changing my mind. You may change others but pre paid gratuities is not going on my bill when I dish out more anyway. I like to see the joy they get when I personally hand them a fair weeks pay.

tjay93
Contributor Level: Purser

tjay93   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:20 am

Lol ma'am. Just know that I am giving my wait staff, the people who my room and whoever serves me more than what is evenly distributed. If my 200 bucks for the who clean, 200 for wait staff and an extra 5 to 10 bucks per person who serves me a drink on there is not fair then I don't know what is.... Again, if you are wanting to keep the gratuities, be my guest.

theseasforme
Contributor Level: Third Mate

theseasforme   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:16 am

You are taking off the gratuity that goes to those you don't see is what I am saying! Your wait staff and steward get the most out of the pre-paid as it is and the others get very, very little but still work just as hard.

theseasforme
Contributor Level: Third Mate

theseasforme   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:14 am

What about everybody you do not come in contact with who do things for you indirectly as I mentioned? Do you personally walk around the ship and give each person who is vacuuming a hundred dollars..or every person cleaning, washing dishes, cooking?

tjay93
Contributor Level: Purser

tjay93   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:14 am

Its your choice at the end of the day to keep the prepaid gratuities. To each it's own. I hope you have a lovely cruise!! 👍

tjay93
Contributor Level: Purser

tjay93   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:12 am

I don't think you read what I said... I tip everyone even room service more than 100 per person who is serving and taking care of my room. Alot more than what they are advising for "pre paid gratuities" is suggesting. That's what I mean.

theseasforme
Contributor Level: Third Mate

theseasforme   Dec 16, 2016 - 1:06 am

So tjay93..you never tip those who cook for you or wash those towels for you?? What about those who vacuum the halls, clean the stair railings or Windows for you? The pre-paid gratuity is a set price and they do not "run it up as much as they like." If you actually go to carnival site it will give you a breakdown of exactly who get what of that gratuity.

Please people..do not have your pre-paid gratuity removed!!! All of the people who get a share of that has either done stuff directly for you or indirectly and deserve to be paid a tip for the service they gave you. If you only tip those you come in contact with then the rest of those (cooks, dishwashers, etc) that you never see get nothing for helping to make your cruise more enjoyable for you! I always pay my pre-paid gratuity and on top of that if I get room service I give them a couple dollars each time they come, I give my room steward an extra 20 the last day of the cruise and give my head waiter and waiter in the dining hall 10 to 15 each on the last day. Do some research before you decide to take off that pre-paid gratuity...it helps to educate yourself first. Just some advice and info for you...it's up to you what you do with it. Happy cruising all and I will see you May 21st!! This is my 5 the cruise. I just got off the Breeze November 27th...loved her so booked another one!

Oh yeah!!! When you are at the ports, for God's sake do not spend your money at the first vendors or stores you see. Please look around!! You may see one store that says "3 for 30". Not bad right? But if you walk down a block or go next door, there is a "5 for 20" or jewelry is "3 for 15". Look around and don't let the vendors fool you. They can sense a first time cruiser and will wine and dine you with words to buy a beach necklace made a sacred tree that is 45 bucks, but you will see that same necklace on the 50cent rack in the store behind it. Also there are plenty place to go visit, restaurants and bars. In case you don't want to do any excursions.

tjay93
Contributor Level: Purser

tjay93   Nov 04, 2016 - 10:56 am

First time cruisers?!?! Yay!! You guys are going to have sooo much fun. First word of advice is to have your gratuities taken off so you can tip the ppl yourselves. If you do prepaid gratuities, they can run it up as much as they want to and that prepaid is spread to everyone on the whole ship, not to your personal waiters/waitress and room service ect. I tip them cash so they can actually keep their tips. Why? Just like any restaurant, the servers have a tip share amongst bar and bus boys. Its like that on a cruise ship scale. I would like them to have a fair 7 days pay. Pre plan and look at excursions before we even step on the ship. Do not over pack but don't shoot yourselves in the foot either. If you are a drinker, save for the drink package. Photos... Unless you want to pay for the photo packages which are quite expensive, get a really nice camera or use your phones and ask someone to take a picture of you two. Almost everyone would say yes. I might photo bomb you lol. There's plenty of shows and events going to keep you interested during the day. Come to relax, have fun and forget about life for 7 days.
