I am going to talk to guest services too. I understand the port change but not to offer a credit or ship change at a later date doesn't make sense. Let people change the dates of their cruise if they want when this happens! This = Happy cruisers (and repeat customers) and they still get their money. We would have been happier with 2 days in Nassau and one at labadee, but are OK with Mexico given the circumstances but would have been much happier going to the original itinerary in March/April next year. Hoping for discounts on drink packages & spa when we get on board!

My price was the same when I booked whether I had chosen this weeks cruise The Western Caribbean, or next week's cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. The price came out the same. I did not know much about the Mexican port, but I know a lot of Mexican tourist places or having problems with kidnappings. Which is why I had not chosen that cruise.

You know I am way upset about this too. I do not like Mexico and never wanted to go there again. I too paid big bucks for an eastern itinerary. I am trying to be positive and think that at least they found us to other ports instead of two more sea days. But they do need to reimburse us for the price difference between a western and eastern itinerary. Good luck getting it though.

Well. Allure of the sea travelers will be visiting two Mexican ports next week. So much for paying eastern Caribbean prices

Guest services will do nothing. Can you imagine the line. I feel I have been defrauded. We are helping them to recoup their losses from other sailings. It will be the least amount of money spent on drink than any other ship I've been on. Drink is where cruise ships make their money. Won't be from me.

Definitely paying attention!! Called twice today inquiring about the exact same thing. While I understand that the situation is out of their control (minus the engine issue), it's also out of ours. I'd be delighted with on-board credit for the difference between an Eastern & Western C cruise. The answer I received, no adjustments at this time but please feel free to speak with Guest Services on the cruise. Seems like you would want to address this beforehand and not 'throw Guest Services' under the bus (or ship). ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Wow. Itinerary change. Is everyone paying attention. We paid to go to the eastern Caribbean. Not Mexico. Mexico does not cost this kind of money. Royal Caribbean is taking us for a ride. Other cruisers were compensated. I have been on the phone for the last 3 hours. They refused to do anything. This is not a change because of weather that's horse shit. They took off st kitts because the boat has issues. We can't go to San Juan because of hurricane however if you look at all the changes cruises Mexico was not one of them. Charging us for going to eastern Caribbean and taking us to Mexico is a straight ripoff. They have been awful from the beginning. 10 people never using them again. I must say I spoke to some very nice people working for them but their hands were tied.

Try not to think of it like a plane. On a plane you have to maintain a certain amount of thrust in order to stay airborne. If you lose more than one engine there is a very good chance that you're going to fall out of the sky. Not the case with a ship. It is my understanding of these vessels use electric propulsion, but the principles are still the same. Let's say there are four screws. Let's say that one of the electric motors had to be taken off-line. That simply reduces your maximum speed. Even if you take a worst-case and Ariel and let's save it all for motors are off-line and you are dead in the water. You are still going to float; the worst case scenario oh would entail a couple of seafaring tugs attaching and towing us to port. Even if the ship does not capable of a cable fed underway replenishment, they can still get replenished via helo. Honestly, you really don't want to be on the ship operating at full speed. That creates a lot of wind across the weather decks.

There is so much to do on an Oasis class we are just going to enjoy the ship. I do feel sailing with out full power does not seem quite right. Hope they have lots of Trivia.

Knasufi: No change in itinerary as of yet.... I know first hand the extensive damage to the San Juan Port, I have family there and PR is in very bad shape. IMHO ~RC will announce a port change soon. Iโ€™m sure theyโ€™re scrambling Eastern Caribbean Cruises as we txt. Iโ€™m constantly checking changes ~Iโ€™ll post here if I see or hear of any.

knasufi   Sep 23, 2017 - 12:01 pm

That was our thought. if they're without power and such, how can it be a port? I suppose we shall find out. Or, perhaps, they are looking at alternatives that *fit* into not only our itinerary, but those of other cruise lines and ports. everybody has had one or so port changed so I'm sure it's a mess to figure out!

UnixGod
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

UnixGod   Sep 19, 2017 - 10:02 am

The Sep 17th cruise was originally scheduled with our same ports. It is now Nassau day two, Labadee day four, and Falmouth day 5. They could potentially redo our trip to that schedule as long as the port can accommodate us. The only way I see a cruise getting all-out cancelled is if the ship cannot be in port on that sunday due to inbound weather like last week.

fossetti31
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

fossetti31   Sep 19, 2017 - 8:48 am

They can change the itinerary with no refunds! Unfortunately it's part of the contract.

ceea2017

ceea2017   Sep 18, 2017 - 2:06 pm

Just curious; we are sailing on Oct 1st Allure; because 2 ports have already been changed and Puerto Rico will likely be changed too, can they completely change the itinerary with no refunds offered? In other words, can they completely change our originally booked eastern Caribbean cruise to Mexico? -Again, I'm not complaining, just curious. (I know there is a high probability that the cruise will just be canceled with rebooking credits if it's bad enough).

Knasufi For the Oct. 1, Eastern Carribean sailing -it shows the following itinerary on my RC account:
1) Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
2) Nassau, Bahama
3) Cruising
4) San Juan, PR.
5) Cruising
6) Labadee, Haiti
7) Cruising
8) Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

But you never know -lol -there's a Tropical Storm Maria Headed to the Caribbean. I don't care if we're in the middle of no where, I'm gonna have fun no matter where we go:) hope this helps......

UnixGod, it's like Coco Cay. it's a Royal Caribbean-owned and operated island.

Connie22, any chance you know our complete itinerary now? Originally, they swapped St. Kitt' s for San Juan, but I heard they're swapping San Juan/St. Thomas/St. Martin with St. Kitt's. The itinerary on the app is incorrect and does not reflect the Haiti swap nor the original swap of San Juan. I'm just curious.

Just received this itinerary update from RC:

ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING TRAVELS

Due to the impact of Hurricane Irma on St. Thomas, we have altered your October 1st Allure of the Seas itinerary. We will now be visiting Labadee, Haiti on October 6th instead of St. Thomas on October 5th. Any pre-paid shore excursions will be refunded to the original form of payment, and you will have an opportunity to book shore excursions for Labadee online via our Pre Cruise Planner and once you board.

luvcruzin24

luvcruzin24   Sep 11, 2017 - 6:54 pm

My wife just brings some black slacks and a couple blouses for formal night. I just wear some slacks and a button down shirt. They just ask that nobody wear shorts in the dining rooms.

twiggysmiff
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

twiggysmiff   Sep 11, 2017 - 6:24 pm

How formal is formal night? My family is not very formal and I don't want to buy and outfit I'm not wearing again. What is the minimum we can do without getting stared at? lol Cocktail dresses/suit and tie or can we get away with skirt and blouse like for church or work/slacks and shirt/polo for men? What about my 7 year old son? Worst case is we skip that night and eat elsewhere, which was our plan.

fossetti31
Contributor Level: Deck Hand

fossetti31   Sep 11, 2017 - 6:21 pm

It's more optional now a days. Not like it used to be. You guys will be fine with a polo and slacks for men. And a simple sundress for women. My wife and I do get dressed up just because we never get a chance to with our occupations. Plus it's a good photo opportunity to keep the wife happy! โ˜บ๏ธ

twiggysmiff   Sep 11, 2017 - 6:15 pm

We were considering this too. Exactly how formal is formal night? Is it suits and cocktail dresses (or more) or is just a simple skirt/slacks and dress shirt or polo for men? What about for my 7 year old son? I don't want to buy a dress outfit for 2 nights.

Honestly none of the St kitts excursions looked all that great so we were just going to hang out by the beach. Now that it has changed we opted for that pirate guided tour thing. My 7yr old hasnt any real focus except for that character breakfast. The nassau aquarium was for the whole family and half the group didnt want to snorkel so we found saphire beach as a compromise.

I didnt know about the mechanical problem. Having been in the Navy, Im used to being directed to certain ports to boost local economies. I figured it was because Puerto Rico's financials were in the crapper and they sent us there as an infusion of cash.

So I'm going on my first ever cruise October 1 on Allure. Why is everyone flipping out at Royal Caribbean because of the change of itinerary? Yes, the ship has a mechanical problem and they've done their best to not cancel everyone's vacation. I'm going to go on the Allure, would it have been nice to go to St. Kitts, sure, but things happen. If someone is so upset they're not going to a certain port, why didn't you just book a vacation to that island? This is my first cruise but doesn't a ship get diverted to different pots, especially in October depending on weather? You can't guarantee perfection. It's like going on vacation and your flight being delayed, or going to Disney and your favorite ride is closed. Or any amusement park. I will make the best of San Juan instead of St. Kitts, I feel sorry for the people that will sit there in sulk and butch over something no one had control of from happening. Hopefully everyone enjoys their cruise, I know I can't wait for mine.
