Norwegian Escape

October 2017 - Norwegian Escape to Caribbean - Western

Great Norwegian Escape Vacation

This was a great cruise, even though we were scheduled to go on the eastern side. The itinerary was changed to visit the Western Caribbean, but that was all good. Never the less, it was a fun and relaxing cruise as we love cruising with Norwegian Cruise Lines. The best part of the whole adventure is the casual style.

Ruby Princess

April 2016 - Ruby Princess to Mexico

Great Vacation Cruise of 2016

This was a perfect vacation cruise.  We enjoyed our first day in San Diego. This gave us a chance to see the city and some of it's highlights. The port that we visited next, LaPez,was a small and quaint place.  We really liked this one.  The people and the culture was delightful and the place was so clean and manicured.  The next stop, Loreto, was also a nice port for us to see. It was also a small town, but too, just as awesome at the other port, LaPez.  Porta Vallarta, is a wonderful place. There are so many things to do and see.  The board walk is beautiful and relaxing along the waters. The shopping had great bargains for us, and their food was authentic Mexican.  Yummy. The ports were all good choices for the cruise to take and we always felt safe there.  The ship was great, as well as the staff, and most importantly of all to us, was the awesome food prepared on ship. Over all, this has been our 4th or 5th cruise to Mexico, and we just love it.  The itinerary for this cruise and the ship was great too, as we had never been to two of the ports. It was something else to be excited to see and learn about. LoveBig SmileHappy

October 2015 - Oosterdam to Caribbean - Southern

Cruising Southern Caribbean

This was the first time we had sailed on a Holland America ship.  Our experience was just a little below or average for this ship.  Boarding the ship was easy and very quick which was great.  When we went to our stateroom, it was so hot that we could have used a fan.  We tried turning the A/C but it was not working.  Needless to say, we suffered through the night and the next day we asked our cabin steward to have it checked.  A couple of days passed and still no action.  I spoke to the cabin supervisor this time and they sent someone to look at it and check it out.  They couldn't find anything wrong with it, but said it was very hot in the room.  Another attempt, I called the front desk and told them my same story.  They had it checked out and still no resolution. On the last evening at 4:30pm, they came to our room to fix the problem.  Needless to say, they did get it fixed, but it was much too late. Another problem we had was our commode  stopped up not once, but twice.  They were slow at coming to fix the problem and we had to use the public restrooms for several hours.....Ugh!

The stops that we made to the islands, were great.  They were beautiful and so clean.  Half Moon Cay was one of the most beautiful. They didn't stay long enough at some of the islands.  Just a few hours.

The workers on the ship were great!  They were very accommodating and always trying to please, very professional and hard working. The majority of them were Chinese and Indonesians.

The food on the ship was not outstanding, but very good.  They had the best breakfasts on the ship that I had ever had on any other one.  Their lunch buffets were pretty good also, but the night buffets were for slim pickings.  Their servings were too small and when you ask for seconds, they would give you just a little more.  I was always taught that a single serving was a 1/2 cup, not 1/4c.

We went to the dining room 3 times, but they were always too slow.  It would take us 1.75 hr. to have our dinner. We did go to the Pinnacle Grill, and that was terrific.

The service and food was excellent. I would highly recommend it.

The ship was always spotless, but it really needed to be dry docked and overhauled.  The beds were broken down and the couches were also.  That is probably why things didn't work very good.

Over all, It was a nice cruise, being that it was very quiet and clean, great places to visit for the itinerary   I'm not so sure that I would go back on it anytime soon though!Surprised

Norwegian Getaway

October 2014 - Norwegian Getaway to Caribbean - Eastern

Floating Hotel

We have cruised with Royal Caribbean, Princess, Carnival, and many times with Norwegian.  Of the many cruises we've taken, this was by far the best cruise we've taken yet.  The ship was very new and large.  It held over 5,000 guests, but didn't seem like that many.  The ship was very functional and laid out perfectly, so that you never felt like you were going to get run over by people.  We especially liked the lay out of the buffet.  There were so many food stations and they were labeled quite nicely.  There were so many different ones to choose from, therefore, the lines of people were not that long.  They also had a grandiose of foods and this was the best tasting food ever. They had a different variety of foods to be chosen every day.  Also, they had an ice-cream station where they hand dipped it for you and a large variety of flavors to choose from as well as condiments for it.  The workers were extremely kind and caring.  Even the top personnel came out every day to greet us to make sure we were well served by all. Their way of getting us on board and off when we left was easier than others we had done in the past.  Everything went so smooth.

rdcarter6's Tips

Miami, Florida - We just went there by Taxi to board the ship. Didn't do any visiting.
Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico - We have been to these ports many times. Therefore, we did not do an excursion this time. When we do, we always like to take a taxi and tour the place to get a better understanding of the people and their culture.
Cozumel, Mexico - We always like to visit this port. It has many nice gift shops and is so vibrant and clean. The people take pride there. We have ridden the Ferry over to Cancun before, and that is delightful and fun. We have also toured their island and learned many things about how the people live there.
Harvest Caye, Belize - This port was amazing. It was beautiful, fun, and relaxing. We spent the day at the beach. It was so clean and delightful. It had many nice places to shop and restaurants to eat and drink.
Norwegian Escape Norwegian Escape - Be prepared to meet the servers and some of the other workers who are not sure of themselves and are not very friendly. If you ask them for directions on the ship, they might tell you that they do not know!
Ruby Princess Ruby Princess - Take advantage of the optional dining places to eat. The Crown Steak House was a teriffic place to dine. The food, the ambiance, and the servers were super.
Oosterdam Oosterdam - Don't go on it until it has been overhauled and refurbished. You will be disappointed.
Norwegian Getaway Norwegian Getaway - Be prepared to walk a long ways from one end of the ship to the other. We had a room on the 13th floor 4 doors from the bridge and another couple was on the 11th floor at the back end of the ship.
