It was so windy and cold! We went out on a catamaran to see the wildlife out in the harbor. We did not see any penguins. Only one or two fur seals dared to come out on the rocks. A few birds also flew around. We were outside on top deck of the boat and froze. Wish more wildlife were out, but they were smart to stay out of the cold and wind.

Tour Akaroa - beautiful little cottages in this sleepy seaside village. Take a bus to Christchurch - devastation from earthquake six years ago still very evident but lots of fun things to do around the city - have a street car (like other citys' hop-on-hop-off) that takes you all over the main areas if you don't want to walk.

Beautiful spot, and the gateway to Christchurch. We opted to stay in Akaroa and have a look around. We went up in the lighthouse for a nominal fee, for which you get a guided tour. We walked around, and then had a fish and chips lunch at Murphy's on the Corner. You will find this opposite the library, up one of the side streets. Don't line up at the "best fish & chips" along the waterfront. There was another ship in that day, so tendering was a long process, but well worth the effort to get off.
