We took the ship excursion to visit the spectacular Tikal Mayan ruins. It was a long and hot trip to get there including an hour by bus and an hour by plane, but the ruins made it worthwhile. An expensive trip but also a highlight of the entire vacation.

We took the spiritual ceremony excursion. We loved the ceremony, the food , and the architecture. I gave this a star because the excursion was misleading. it said light walking which was not true we walked for about 2miles. This would have been ok for the hubby but some of our group had difficulty getting around and one of group member even had a can. The tour guide did not even try to slow down for them. As the sales people in the square and the streets they were relentless and did not take no for an answer. They also WAY over charged for items (simple scarf $60 american dollars). There is nothing near the port just some huts with merchandise. Everything is about 1 1/2 hours away from the port so you need an excursion. We have no desire to come back to this port again.

Try to take in one of the tours to local farms and plantations. There is a coffee plantation tour that is guided by the owners that we really enjoyed.

Just walked out in to the visitors center at the end of the pier. It was very pleasant. Also, a nice little cultural history show.

The port is just a port, but head to Antigua because it's beautiful.

Antigua and the country side getting there was beautiful and the architecture was magnificent. People did seem a little pushy and distracted from the opportunity to view the town with their constant hawking of goods and getting in your way to actually see things.

Went to beautiful Antigua. Enjoyed the drive there and observing the people, land and culture. Antigua was a wonderful place and when I was there they were celebrating Lent with a procession. We saw the volcanoes and were the lava flowed last year when it errupted.

Tour group was too large. Excursion purchased on ship. Would visit Antigua again but book own excursion to tour at own pace. Did rebel and venture off for own lunch as tired of own group and had some great pizza!
