The port is dangerous. They say they do not have a drug problem in this city, but evident they do.unless you have booked an excursion , do not get off ship. We booked the Caribbean train and canal tour. The description of the train portion stated that train rides through lush forest stopping frequently to link at animal living around tracks . The train does not stop and due to major construction the animals are long gone. However , our guide was charming and very knowledgeable .

We had a private tour with our 16 person group. We booked a person called "Freedom". They were very highly rated and he did not disappoint us at all. He has a tremendous knowledge of this area. We took a boat tour of the canals and saw much of the wildlife. We toured the city and surrounding areas. Freedom did and excellent job and I would recommend him.

Loved this port, it's beautiful. We did ziplining and it was amazing. This is a gorgeous place. We'd love to come back here someday. The ziplining was probably our favorite excursion so I'd recommend it, even if it's not in Costa Rica

We visited the Sloth Sanctuary which was really interesting. Buttercup is super cute but Jupiter was our daughter’s favourite. Howler monkeys were also on site and making their presence known. We also saw lizards, river turtles, crabs and various birds on the included boat trip but no wild sloths. I would love to do an extended holiday in Costa Rica to see more of the beautiful country.

We visited the Wildlife Rescue Center and La Ceiba Private Preserve. These are very popular attractions. We saw toucans, hawks, monkeys, sloths, tamanduas, anteaters, deer and parrots. The two attractions are adjacent to one another and well maintained. They are worth a visit.

Limon: the 7.5 hr. Veragua Rainforest & Research Center, & Tortuguera Canal excursion was excellent! Our weather was perfect, & we saw sloths, monkeys, crocodiles, & egrets along the way. We descended the rainforest in a gondola, hiked to a waterfall, & enjoyed a local buffet lunch at the Center. On the Tortuguera Canal, we saw crocodiles, monkeys & sloths. It was well-organized, & one of our best tours.

Within walking distance is a lot of souvenir shopping. Didn’t get beyond that area due to heat and humidity!

We took an excursion out to the rain forest trolley/tram ride. The bus trip was nearly two hours in length, as advertised, and the tram ride took about 70 minutes total. Very interesting indeed. They provided us with a very nice meal and we were able to buy many souvenirs at the end.
