Not the best shore excursion. The tour of the old walled city was good. However, the constant panhandling of trinket peddlers made the sightseeing less than enjoyable

For shore tours your picked up at the ship side, dropped off outside the port must walk thru a zoo, and shopping area, then picked up by a bus and driven to the ship

It's all about the boat and the service. Where the boat happens to park itself is almost incidental, especially in the the Caribbean where the ports are pretty much all the same, regardless of country. This IS the place to buy emeralds though, if you ever thought you wanted the chance to get good quality.

We live in South Carolina, which is hot and humid during the summer. SC's weather is nothing compared to Cartagena - we were dripping with sweat just sitting on the bus. I went on a "highlights" tour; the first stop was the Spanish fort. I would not recommend touring the fort for anyone who walks with a cane or a rollator, especially since the heat and humidity are so bad. There were no stairs, but a series of very steep ramps which led to the top of the fort.

New port for us and we did a Hop on Hop off bus. It was ok but felt uncomfortable getting of in most areas.
