We stayed 5 days in HongKong. I would recommend 7. We went to Macau. Been to Vegas? Then you've been to Macau. It's actually hotter in Vegas. LOL. They only gamble in Hong Kong dollars, and it's $300 a hand for blackjack! So maybe see a show. IN HongKong, you have to go to the peak. There's a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant up there with great views. Just go early if you're seeing a sunny day because it's busy. You can use your Octopus pass and skip the line for the train that takes you up there. They have a tourist sim card you can load at 7-11 but activation is complicated. You have to specify you want 7 days and then you have to apply credit to the data and/or calling/texting. SO get someone at 7-11 who speaks english or you'll be tring to figure it out. A lot of people don't know this, but you can go on an organized tour to China (Shenzhen) without a Chinese visa. It has to be a licensed tour operator and only to the Pearl River District. It's on the China visa government website. Check with your hotel concierge. The hotels here are SMALL rooms, but the people are very nice. We got comfortable and someone stole our 36o camera so keep your guard up. It's CROWDED. Also, if you're going to walk, walking is done underground or on elevated walkways. You can't cross all the streets because of barriers. Takes some getting used to. The subways are FULL but cheap and reliable. The ferries from HK to Kowloon are regular and cost about 37 cents one way. They have UBER and it's about $150 Hong Kong Dollars over to Stanley Market from the harborfront. I recommend shopping there or the ladies market in Kowloon.

Yes, we took the airport transfer along with the city highlights. The tour guide was excellent and we visited very interesting places. Loved Victoria Peak and Stanley Market.

Astonishing place, we did a nighttime tour to see the lights on Hong Kong island from Kowloon. Such a shame about the Coronavirus virtually closing the place down after we left.

We were extra excited on our itinerary because typhoons had forced us to be out at sea for 8 consecutive days, cancelling our first 3 ports of call. There was very nearly a passenger mutiny when the 3rd port of call, DaNang was cancelled just outside the Harbor entrance. So close, and yet so far. The ship docked at the Kai Tak cruise ship terminal, which was once the main runway for the notorious international airport before it was relocated to a new man made island. The good news is the terminal is beautiful and modern, with a park on the roof, like Osanbashi Pier in Yokohama. The bad news is it is in the wrong side of Hong Kong Harbor. It is on the Kowloon side. Getting to Victoria and downtown Hong Kong proper requires taking an excursion, or navigating the subways, tunnels and buses, or an expensive cab, which many people did do. We had previously toured Hong Kong, so we were OK with seeing the Kowloon area instead. We took an excellent excursion to Lantau Island and the Po-Lin Monastery. These sights were quite a contrast to the urban hustle and bustle of downtown Hong Kong. We docked overnight, but weren’t brave enough to venture into downtown on our own at night. On the second morning, we did take the free shuttle bus to a nearby shopping mall where you could catch a train or subway to downtown. The mall was closed, but there is a nice and free public garden and Nunnery next to the mall that was worth a relaxing stroll. We wished that they would offer a water taxi across the harbor from Kai Tak Pier, but the nearest water taxi pier was a taxi cab ride or at least 2 bus transfers away. The free shuttle does not stop at a water taxi pier. We heard some cruise ships still dock on the downtown side of Hong Kong Harbor, but ours did not. BTW, you can’t walk from Kai Tak cruise ship terminal to Kowloon because the whole area is under heavy construction. There are no sidewalks and heavy machinery is all over the place. That may change once all the pier development is finished, but that looked a few years down the line. There are cabs, and the free shuttles take you to two shopping mall areas in Kowloon safely.
