Tried to go to tp of Mona Kia. Black ice stopped us at 9000 feet. But tour guide did his best to show us around to make up for not being able to get to top

Hilo is very wet but oh so green and beautiful. We took an excursion that included a trip to the Volcano, Rainbow Falls, an orchid garden, the macadamia nut factory and a beautiful beach.

No excursion. We had wanted to go to the Discovery Center, but it was closed on Monday. We would have been there Tuesday if the cruise had been a regular 7 days. We attempted to walk to the Japanese Gardens about 1 1/2 miles away but found there are no sidewalks. We finally got there, but the taxi we called did not show up so we walked back. When you walk with a cane and have your husband push you in a wheelchair it did make the trip difficult. However, the gardens were worth the effort.

Volcanoes National Park nice to visit. Would have loved more time to hike a bit. Downtown Hilo nice to walk around, but nothing spectacular.
