Venice is amazing of course, many people on our ship spent a few days there after the cruise. We only had a few hours until our flight so we stored our luggage at Piazzale Roma, took a vaporetto to Rialto Bridge, and meandered our way back through the alleys and across the canals stopping in glass shops and bakeries along the way. Then we picked up our luggage and took an ATVO bus to the airport. Would be nice to have more time there but we had already been to Venice so we skedaddled to the airport.

gondola rides are best and cheaper away from grand canal, make sure you store your bags or backpacks before getting in the long line to Saint Marks Catheral

I loved Venice but don't consider this a port since unless you got there the day before. This is false advertising. You have to start trying to get on the boat at 12:00 or you will be waiting in long hot lines for hours.

we missed Venice due to flooding which was unfortunate but we docked in Ravenna instead and took a tour to Bologna the next day. We liked that city very much ( less touristy than others)

A tip in Venice if you are going to the Doges Palace and the Cathedral of Saint Marks. You can rent the Audio guide right across the entrance to the Cathedral. The cost is around $10.00 this will allow you to bypass the lines and go direcly into Saint Mark's church. If you are planning on taking a gondola ride, do not take it a night. Most of the canals are not lit and almost seem abandoned. Most of the residents have moved out of Venice due to the cost of housing in Venice. There are very few bars and very little night life in Venice.

We arrived three days ahead and truly loved it. We were unable to get the hotel that Crystal had booked due to limited space. Im so glad that we didn't;t go with them. We stayed at the Danieka and it was right on the canal and was terrific.
