We began our trip with 5 days in the Venice area so we could enjoy one of our favorite cities. We stayed in Mestre and bused into Venice each day to save some money.

We stayed away from the big crowd in Mureno just a few minutes from Venice and we highly recommend this.

We loved Venice as it was so charming. We bought a map and walked into the city in the evening but the small street can be slightly intimidating at dusk. The Rialto bridge is great and St Marks Square is beautiful. The cruise into and out of Venice is well worth the watch as this is a truly beautiful city!

Amazing! Be sure to spend extra time in Venice if you can. And if you can afford it, stay in a hotel that's actually in Venice!! Just know that there are no cars on the actual islands, so to take a taxi from the airport to the farthest point they can take you costs 40 euros, and a water taxi from that drop off point to our hotel costed 60 more euros. Also, keep in mind, the people of Venice do not like cruise ships and actually protested a few days after we left, surrounding cruise ships in their own boats! So be weary of who you announce you're going on a cruise to!
