My tips for Venice if visiting from a ship is to take the hop on hop off water bus that has all the main attractions on it stops. You can pick this up the cruise port and is reasonably price enjoy the beauty of Venice with the knowledge that you can back get back to your ship with plenty of time to spare.

We arrived in Venice two days before sailing and stayed in a hotel in Favaro. Here the hotel Altieri was a third or less of the price of a similar hotel in central Venice and was 200m from the tram tracks which arrives directly in Piazzale Roma on the Venice island after a 30 minute ride in modern clean carriages. The day passes (€20 for 24 hours, €30 for 48 hours) which can be purchased by cash or credit card from a machine at the Tram stop) are valid for the tram, buses and vaporetti. The trams run from about 6.00 a.m. until 1.00 a.m. so it is still possible to take full advantage of central Venice, and return to the hotel late into the evening.

Stunning! This was my favourite place. The gondola ride is a must! Then I wandered for hours around the little back streets. There is so much to see away from the main squares, but it was still very busy
