Hired car and driver, walked the acropolis. Our friend lost a filling a few days before and our driver’s daughter is a dentist, he arranged for her to get a new filling even on a Saturday.

The port books many cruise ships on the same day so do what you can to skip lines. We did the excursion and it was $100/ each to go to the Acropolis. It was so crowded we didn't have any time after to hang out in the city and had to have a rushed meal.

Took ship transfer to Athens centre to explore on our own. Dropped at the rear entrance to the Acropolis, which was much quieter than main one at the front. Purchased tickets on line before we went and no waiting to get in at all. Tough walk to top but well worth it. Takes time to walk back down with the crowds and narrow steps. Spent some time enjoying shopping, gelatos and cocktails in the Monastiraki area.

Went in two days early to adjust to time and see the city. Don't miss the Acropolis Museum. Most incredible museum I have ever vistied. Toured on our own.

Taxi to Athens hotel and checked in before headed to our tour of the Acropolis. Staying overnight so we walked around Athens and watched the changing of the Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Metro super easy to navigate as well.

We took Athens on your Own with NCL, more for security and peace of mind in case we were late back, but honestly don’t bother - it’s a long day in port so just take a cab or the bus. We didn’t bother pre booking Acropolis tickets and just queued for 20 minutes on the day. Awesome visit - more blue skies! Loved also walking around the old town and parks with archaeological sites at every turn!

We arrived two days early, stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel ( 10 Syngrou Avenue , Athens, Attiki 11742) on the edge of the Plaka neighborhood which surrounds the Acropolis. We booked a great tour with an English speaking guide through Viator for the highlights of Athens - which included a brief bus tour around Athens, along with guided time in the Acropolis Museum and on the Acropolis with entree fees prepaid. We also booked an evening dinner at the hotel, and had the most beautiful view of the Acropolis after sunset.
