Athens is huge. To get to the historical sites you will need to go more downtown. We arrived on a Sunday so traffic wasn't bad. One day is never enough so decide what is important and realize doing it all won't be possible. There is not shade on the Acropolis and wear good walking shoes. The hill can be slippery.

We enjoyed the Best of Athens tour. The lunch served was a Greek meal that had so much food, we ate too much. The Acropolis and the Temple of Poseidon were worth the cost.

We were on Royal Caribbean Jewel if the seas. Got into port by 6ish. We planned on doing a hop on hop off bus. We left the boat early about 6:45-7:00 am. Buses not running yet met a female taxi driver named Lisa who convinced us to hire her for a 1/2 day tour. We totally lucked out. She was from England and got us to the Acropolis before it opened-we were able to tour it before the hordes of tour groups arrived-BIG difference. She then took us for some shopping, Olympic stadium, changing of the guard, Zeus temple then took us to a local restaurant at the old port in Piraeus. Restaurant was right on the water had a nice lunch with fresh fish and delicious Greek wine, we were back in the boat and by the pool at 1:30! Definitely recommend getting out and about early to avoid crowds.
