Still need more time at this port, but even excursions won't carry you up to the Acropolis. Fortunately, I last visited this city when I was 20, and I practically jogged up to the top. At 63, I am no longer capable of making the trip without much effort. We did enjoy spending time in the Plaka.

Athens was crowded and not as clean as the rest of the places on our trip. The Acropolis was very crowded and almost dangerous to get to because of the slippery cobblestones and the masses of people crowding to get there and to leave. With our free time we explored the Plaka, found a nice restaurant and had a Greek meal.

Athens is full of graffiti and therefore is not a place for sightseeing. However the main attraction, the Acropolis, was well worth seeing

DANGEROUS in Plaka. Unfriendly people. Acropolis was fine. We left the tour guide and saw Acropolis on our own. Guide ran us thru Plaka to a restaurant where he probably got a kick back. We were supposed to have time to shop in Plaka, but guide spent so much time running us to a far away restaurant that we had no time.

We did a tour to the acropolis but only to the bottom of it. We were still able to see it pretty good. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting.

Piraeus to Athens - take my advise and use the train to get into the city - lost a lot of time sitting in traffic.
