I had a private cab take me to "off street" vendors to buy tons of 18KT gold jewelry. Just REFUSE to buy it if they want to tax you the 15% VAT claiming you will get a refund at airport because no way in hell you will get that money back after your leave the EU. Meaning airport has ONE GUY and hundreds of people trying-you will miss your flight trying. Another vendor I bought gold from set the VAT up worse, when I had to go to a second place and get a "stamp" to avoid a later charge of VAT. Same issue-way different office to get that stamp and you will die trying. l will see some 15% soon on my charge card. That tax applies to only residents of the EU so screw that tax. PLUS you better have the objects on you and not in your luggage as many people in line were turned away after waiting an hour in the stupid line because they had already checked their luggage in! Otherwise I got a lot of beautiful gold jewelry I will just handle it different next time for sure.

Save money and take the train into Florence on your own. The station is only about 10 minutes' walk from the Duomo. On the way back, stop in Pisa (no additional fare on the train)!

Pisa is easy to get to. Lucca is a short ride from Pisa and small enough to see in one afternoon. Try to book your times on line BEFORE you go if you plan on climbing the leaning tower of pisa.

Done the Pisa / Leaning tower trip and it was fantastic. If you want a lot of time here, book the full day tour.

I had read that you had to take a shuttle outside of the port but when I exited the ship there were som excursion buses taxis there. I had to locate assistance to determine which shuttle to get on to get outside of the port to meet Cruise Excursions because of the chaos. Once I made it to the shuttle area outside of the port, I learned that my shuttle had picked up folks at the ship and then came to the shuttle area. I think that was more an issue with the excursion communication and my lack of cruising experience.
