Very hot, glad we got the cable car up and down. Lovely sitting in the shade with a beer looking down on the bay.

Beautiful place! Make sure to visit Fira for the shopping and food and Oia for the beautiful picturesque blue domes. You have to take a cable car for 5 euro per person or a donkey ride for 6 euro per person. The donkey ride is not as romantic as it sounds, it's smelly and slow. You can also walk up and down the donkey trail for no cost, but again you have to watch where you step and plug your nose.

Weather was rain, other than that I took an excellent ship excursion and visited the ancient ruins recently made available for tours, very interesting and educational.

We did an independent Sea Kayak tour around the Southern Coast (Black, Red and White Beaches). Tough paddling, but spectacular scenery.

This such a picture haven but in Oia, there are way too many tours and crowds. I seriously saw Tour Group 42 get taken through town. There were 5-7 ships in 'port' [tendered]. Do ships not come in the the other side of th island and maybe dock then tour from there? Need more tours to the wineries. Used the Oia Celebrity excursion just so we could get tendered off first to avoid some crowding in Oia. Maybe Fira needs to increase their cable car system to move people faster?? Get rid of the donkeys - seemed a little cruel.

Avoid the poor donkeys and either take the cable car or a ferry and coach trip to Oia from the jetty, which can avoid the cable car queues. Oia is smaller and less crowded than Thira.
