Best port of the trip! Take the boat to OIA! Just about 15 or 20 minutes to the left. The most beautiful quintessential part of Greece! It gets busy there with very narrow walk ways, but the modern feel and views are unparalleled.

Santorini had the picture perfect views of white and blue buildings and a beautiful harbor. We did a ship tour from here because it was Greek Easter and many things were closed. The tour was called “Island of Santorini and Oil Village tour” It took us from Oia to a Local winery to taste wine with a beautiful view of the Sea, to Fira for free time where we had a quick lunch and bought some souvenirs & took pictures. Had some gelato. Have some change if you want to use a bathroom here , then back to Athinios port where there was nothing but the boats to take you back to the ship. There were other tenders that went to Fira where you can take the donkeys up or ride the cable car. This would have been fun but we didn’t know about it.

Beautiful. We came off tender, took a boat ride followed by bus into town of Oia which was beautiful. Then bus to Fira. Here we had a choice of 3 ways of getting down to boat. Donkey rides which I wouldn’t contemplate as I just object to using the poor animals in this way. Walking down 290 steps which I had heard could be slippery or cable cars. As there was no queue when we were ready to come down we chose the cable car. Never again! But that is me and my stupid fears. I’m sure for the majority of people it’s ok.

This island is absolutely gorgeous and a geologist's/volcanologist's paradise! Beautiful scenery from below and from the top of the island. The bus ride is a very winding, uphill trip (hats off to the drivers!) The Akrotiri Excavations site is a new, modern, indoor, air-conditioned active archaeological site from the Bronze Age, about 1000BC. Impressive preservation of the town. The timing of the tour was such that there was no time to visit shops. Free time at the end of the tour (SO03) in Fira was enough to get a meal and walk to the funicular (cable car) down. I did not take the donkey-ride-down-the-hill option. The strenuous part of the trip was the walk through the very hilly town - after the tour of Akrotiri - and before the free time. I would have skipped that and stayed on the bus, knowing what I know now.

Oia is just like the pictures. We were the first ship in port, so some of the shops weren't open yet. But it made all the difference on the crowds! As we were walking back to our bus, 10 other buses or more had parked and hundreds of people were heading in to the small town!
