We took a local boat to Oia. SO BEAUTIFUL!! Had lunch at a rooftop restaurant with gorgeous views of the water. Got to walk around and then coauthor the bus back to Santorini. Note: with a local tour the drop you outside of town and give you verbal directions to get back. We found our way ok just know your bar rings. Not sure this would have been as perfect if it was peak cruise season with multiple ships in port. We were the first sailing if the season so we were truly blessed.

Santorini is Greece! The famous white cliffs of houses and blue domed churches are just as they appear in the photos. We toured with Santorini Unique Experiences Tours and did their 5-Hour Sightseeing Tour with a small group of 8 persons in a very spacious Mercedes Mini Bus. The tour included a visit to Oia to see the famous blue domes and then on to another beautiful, uncrowded village of Megalochori. The next stop was a winery, Estate Argyros, for a wine tasting. Then on to the beach community of Kamari for a stroll along their beach walk. This was a lovely black pebble beach with lots of restaurants and small hotels. We found that we would have rather spent more time at this beach and skipped the winery. Santorini is a tendering port. We rode the cable car up to Fira. It cost 6 Euros each one way and takes about three minutes. There were no lines for the trip up and our ship was the only one visiting this day. On the other hand, the lines to return to the ship via the cable care were over an hour wait at 3pm. We decided to walk down the donkey trail which is a long, winding cobblestone staircase from Fira to the tender dock. It took us about 30 minutes and was better that standing in line and very scenic.

Be aware for the cable car. The trick is too get the first tendering ticket to get to the port. But to do that you have to wake up around 5:20 a.m to get the 1st tendering ticket. Because you’ll get off first the line for the cable car to go up is fast, then take a taxi to Oia for 25€. It's worth it as you’ll get there before the crowds of excursion come in. For us we manage to take beautiful pictures without any people appearing in the background.

For those with mobility issues getting off here would be very difficult. There are 2 choices to get up to the top of the caldera, cable car (€6 each) or donkey. The latter option is cruel due to the winding steep steps they are forced to climb, and they all look very sad and unloved. Views from the top are amazing and it's no surprise why this is on people's bucket list to visit.

Read reviews about how to get up to the top. Definitely wait for the cable car. We started to walk but there was a stampede of donkeys / horses. They are allowed to roam free. We saw young ladies put on horses and set off up the 700 steps, the horse just stopped or turned around. I thought they were placid donkeys lead up the path, not let loose. It’s only €6 each way on cable car. Once you are up, there are beautiful views, however, you’ll have to hunt to find the iconic blue domes.

The panoramic Santorini with minimal walking was an amazing tour. This has everything to do with the beauty of the area, but also the knowledge of our guide. Agatha not only knew her history but showed she cared about her guests. She showed us where the best photo ops were and even took many photos for us. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
